Gas Tank Rust Fix

Found this on another forum & thought I'd pass it on to you guys.

Might help if you have a little rust in your gas tank that finds it's way to your carbs & clogs the jets.

Hmmm....read about the last product on the page. That sealer prep must do a number on the paint if it gets on it....BE CAFEFUL !!!

"Tank Mask Protectant
Protects paint and finishes outside your fuel tank when prepping the inside. Water-based liquid mask applies easily to painted tanks and dries to a non-tacky film that won't damage expensive paint and finishes. After the inside of the tank is prepped, just wash away the film with warm soapy water."

I recommend this be done by a dealer or a experienced mechanic. trust me I tried it on my 1972 honda cb 175 and i messed it up. I had to get a new tank.

How did you mess it up?

I mean how hard is it?

I don't know what went wrong, but the coating didn't stick to the inside of the tank and started fallin off inside.

Re: Gas Tank Rust Fix

Even using the preparation fluid before the sealer?

I remember back in the mid 70's we would reduce the surface rust inside a tank by removing the petcocks & putting some fairly small link chain inside & shaking it over & over.
Then flushed it out (used kerosene) & repeated the process till it came out w/o any rust particles (last rinse was with gasoline)
Of course it would rust again cause it wasn't coated but it reduced the problem of getting tiny rust particles stuck in the carb jets for a fairly long while

Yes I did, I followed all the directions. I bought the whole kit, I believe it was a 3 bottle kit. That was like 4 years ago. I know other people had failures and others that I know worked for them. All I am saying, if you are not experienced, you MIGHT wanna try somebody who knows about the stuff.

The kit is named kreem it is a three step tank treatment. did not work for me either I tried it on an old dirt bike where I live you have to store your bike for winter. My tip is to add stabil and fill the tank to the top I belive this will keep rust from forming it has worked for me
