Fuel for storage
 

Hey all,
Quick question...is it better to store a bike over the winter with higher or lower octane fuel? I already have a bottle of fuel stabilizer but was just curious if higher or lower octane fuels would make a difference upon firing it back up in the spring. My guess is that the difference between 87 and 93 pretty negligable but is one more apt to go bad even with stabilizer or anything along those lines?

No difference, just be sure to add the stabilizer, run it for a bit to get some some stablized fuel into the carbs, then top it up to not get rust at the top of the tank from condensation.

lift the tank, turn off the petcoack, and run it dry or at least drain the float bowls; squirt some some 30w into the spark plug holes and crank it over a couple of revs with the kill switch off, fill up the tires and put the battery on a smart charger. amomg other things

thanks guys. I'm putting the winterizing process off as long as i possibly can but i think 2008 riding days are pretty much done for me...oh well.

Go with 83 and stabilizer. Drain the floatbowls through the drain screws at the bottom.
If you have them, put the bike on stands to prevent flatspotting of the tires, if you don't, slightly overinflate and rotate the wheels every now and then.
Before you do all that, get your last ride in, and while it's hot change the oil to get all the crap out that may attack your engine internals while sitting.

Or move some place where you don't have to do any of that..............

i think i like the idea of moving somewhere warm. winter in new england blows.

The northeast in general blows during the winter months.... We had a high of 73 on Friday and 1.5 inches of wet snow and in the low/mid 30s Sunday here in the Buffalo NY area. Oh well I am used to it...
