Fuel leak

So I have noticed that if I leave my bike in the sun above about 70 degrees that I get a small puddle of fuel leaking out of one of the vent hoses. When I rock the bike off the stand I get a steady stream out for about a second. I'm assuiming that there is a vent for the fuel tank to bleed off the pressure caused by the heat, maybe it's plugged?

Is the tank super full?

8541Hawk May 21, 2012 03:16 PM

How full is the tank when this is happening?

Tank is maybe half full or a little more. It did it 2 days in a row when it was fairly warm. I would say between 1/2-3/4

I could see it doing it if the tank was full so your issue is kind of strange.

There is a vent line and an overflow line to the tank. If the vent was clogged the bike would cut out like it was running out of gas after you have ridden for a while, so I doubt that is the problem

So it sounds like you are getting fuel in the overflow line but not really sure how.

The overflow line could be cracked inside the tank. You could try filling the tank up all the way and then try blowing air in the tube at the bottom of the tank and see if you see bubbles comming up through the fuel. Be sure not to put any real pressure to it though. Don't want to mess anything up.

Ok, I'll try that since my low fuel light just came on. It hasn't cut out on me yet

Maybe you are just riding the pee out of it!!!!!!!

That could be possible. My ride to work is about 6 miles, but it usually turns into 70-80

There are 3 lines I believe all together. Am I correct in assuming one is a vent line, and one is an overflow then? What's the third? I had a check valve fail in one of my jet ski's last year, and the pressure from the tank forced fuel through the carbs and filled the crankcase. I definitely don't want anything like that happening again.

only 2 lines to the bottom of the tank. the 3rd small line is the vacuum line to the petcock ;)

I was talking about the 3 rubber hoses that come out by the oil filter

The third one is the coolant reserve bottle overflow.
