Front Sproket thoughts
New guy to the 996 club and glad to find the site! I rode one of these babies back in 2003 while I was working at a Honda shop, loved it and just purchased a 2004 with 2500 miles.
The previous owner put a new (1 tooth smaller) sprocket on the front. I took the bike to the NC mountains this weekend and noticed that the speedometer was way off...like 15 mph off. Would the sprocket replacement cause this issue? Any thoughts to the change in the first place? |
Yeh, it messes with the speedo, Yet, with the shorter, tighter curves here in the NC mountains. the tooth drop on the front sprocket is a benefit..
Contact me when you come back up to the hills.. |
WOW-Good to know...This was my first ride on the Superhawk. I rode to Boone, jumped on the Blueridge Parkway, got off at Little Switzerland and rode the curves to the bottom of the hill. My intent was to ride to Asheville and then ride 40 home but my butt was hurting! All in all a 6 hour ride for my first ride in a few years! This bike is a better ride than my VFR that I sold a few years ago.

Here is a whole thread on the subject which list the pro's and con's of a 15 tooth front sprocket.
