Free play in radiator fan
 

Hello,

I've started a major maintenance and upgrade job on my VTR and now that the fairings are off I've noticed some axial play in the radiator fan. Is that something normal?

I just checked mine and it has about 1.5-2.0mm play. If I remember, it's had a bit of play for the 6 years I've had it. I checked a NOS fan and it has about the same.

Mine is the same, has been since I owned the bike.

I ended up taking the fan out for inspection. Turns out the nut was 2-3 threads too loose. It had only stayed on because the screw was a bit oxidized.

After tightening it and applying some locktite it got to zero free play.

For anyone concerned about free play : you might want to check your fan nut.
