Fitting '96 CBR 900 RR wheels to my SH
 

I needed brake rotors any how, so I bought some CBR 900 RR wheels and rotors. I have seen some SH owners out there with either RC51 wheels or CBR wheels and I was wondering what kind of complications I am facing in terms of fitment? Based on personal experience, the rear will bolt right on. I "think" the front will also since A) The rotors are the same (also VFR/CBR600) and B) I bolted up a VFR wheel(with rotors) on mine. I used the SuperHawk's spacers for both ends.

Great price since you get the rotors too! A pair of used discs can go for that much by themselves. I think the "custom" paint helped keep the bidding action down. I hope you're not shipping them to Belgium though. OUCH!

Just so you know the front wheel on the 900rr is a 16" wheel while the superhawk wheel is 17". The 16" will make steering quicker but you sacrafice stability. I had a 16" wheel on my interceptor 1000 I loved the quickness of the steering but on bumpy roads it would get loose on me. I personally would buy either a cbr 600f3, older rc51 or vfr 17" wheel or just use the rotors and sell the wheels.

Yup, 22 is right. 900's have 16 in wheels but the later 929/954's have 17's. Tire selection isn't very wide either for the 16's.

16" just in front, I'm sure bling just forgot to make that clear as he has the rear on his. The rear will be 17".

What do mean by stability issues on bumpy roads? I did not even take the 16" front into consideration. Will the strange angle at which the SH rests w/ the 16" also become an issue? I bought the wheels because of the yellow paint scheme (I have a yellow SH) and the five spokes over three. Eh... I'll install them anyhow.

I don't doubt they will look good, I would have the same set up if 2 different assholes didn't rip me off. 5 years buying on ebay never been dissapointed until this month been riped 3 times!!! :evil: But that's my problem back to yours, even the bikes that were designed to have the 16" wheel expeirenced tank slap. It's not as bad with heavier bikes as it was with light ones like the vfr 500, but I did notice some head shake withe my vfr 1000f. I don't know the exact affect it will have on the superhawk because it"s set up for 17" but I'm sure it will change things up a bit.

Try it out if you don't like the way it handles keep the rotors, sell the front wheel for what you can get and buy a 17" from a vfr800, f3, or an older first gen. rc51. They're all the same and you can get the paint mached to look the same. As far as the polished lip it only takes about 8 hrs of sanding and polishing to make it really shine. belive me your fingers only ache for a couple of days. :twisted:

Sorry rc51 has larger axel so the inners would have to be changed so stick with f3 or vfr. :oops:

Sorry about the late reply (I was in Italy and amazingly Belgium over the summer), but what exactly is meant by "tank slap" and "head shake" (see the reply below). I will be using the SH to commute for the most part, so stability is kind of a top priority. So before I go on a witch hunt for a VFR or F3 front wheel I just wanted to clear the above ambiguous words up a bit.

"Tank slap", is when the bars uncotrollably "slap" the tank from side to side. "Head shake", is a light shake in the bars that is not that noticeable when your hands are on the bars but if you take them off you notice a little side to side action. Head shake can increase if you hit a group of consecutive bumps that cause the wheel to skip over the pavement. I believe this is why Honda and others finally gave up on the 16" wheel, Quick response but a little unstable, sorry.

I do have some good news though, I do have an F3 wheel I need to get rid of. I just bought it but I did a front end conversion and it no longer works for my front end. You could use the rotors from the 900rr wheel if it's the older type.

Try yours out and see if you like it, or you can sell it and buy mine(or soneone elses). Does it already have the tire or do you have to get one? You'll also notice it's tougher to find 16" tires, not all companies make them anymore.

Oh, I forgot to mention, 1) F3 wheel is direct bolt on, same spacers and rotors. Yours are the same rotors because it's '96.
B) My wheel is also yellow so you would just have to polish the lip.

900 rr rear wheel for SH
 

Hi 22 I recently own 98 900rr rear wheel and org white color but pre owner repaint it gloss black now some of the paint are chips and today while window Ebay shopping I scope a rear 900rr came from 1999 as seller claim it had less than 500 miles and come with hub, rotor. So do U think it fit SH. Price is very reasonable almost look flawless(my 98 900rr needs new bearings, old one is froze) does it worth to go 4.:???:

Should work fine and if it really only has 500 miles on it then it should be like new. If you want to sell your old one cheap let me know I could use a spare.
