F4i rear shock question
I was thinking about doing the f4i rear shock on my bike, since installing the 1000rr front end has really brought out how lousy that rear shock is, but funds are tight with building a house and a wife telling me that I cant spend any more money on the bike...so as much as i'd love to, the DMR f4i shock is out of my price range as of now.
My question is, has anyone installed an f4i shock on the VTR with no changes to springs or valving? Making the shock adapter isn't a problem, that is a case of beer to my machinist buddy plus a bushing. Just don't know if it'll be worthwhile in stock form, it has to be better than the VTR shock due to the greater adjustability in damping though. Once money starts flowing again, I will send it out for tuning and valving, just want something cost effective in the meantime. |

EDIT: No, it's not you scoots. |

EDIT: No, it's not you scoots. Too funny....I think I'm gonna pick up a shock and mill up an adapter for the lower mount regardless and see how it works....if it doesn't work right, the stocker will go back in until the money comes through to send it to Jamie for a respring and valving. Like I said earlier, it can be any worse than the stock VTR shock. At least with the adapter made up already that should save me some cost on the rebuild from him. |
My call is it may be better but not worse. And you get some compression adjustment.

Does the f4I use a shock linkage similar to the VTR?

I read in another thread here that the f4i stock shock spring is too soft for the SH.

One would have thought you would swap the spring from the Hawk shock to the F4i shock.
both of those facts could be totally wrong tho... |

IIRC they are different lengths. plus im not 100% sure but i think the spring diameter on the hawk is different at the top and bottom.
both of those facts could be totally wrong tho... I remembered I swapped mine from my 919 to my hawk. But that was onto a Ohlins now I think about it. |
