Engine similarities VTR vs. RC51

Been doing some searches and still not quite satified with my findings.

I recently picked up a VTR that is in need of reassembly. It's missing some engine accessories and I'm currious how similar the engines are between the VTR and the RC51? I'm not looking to make something it's not, but if I can upgrade while replacing parts I need I figure it's a win win situation.

I know the issue of Fuel Injection conversions has been done to death, so I'm not going to ask if it can be done. What I'm curious is, component location, parts interchange, casting differences.

Ignition pick up being a main concern. Are they mounted in the same location?

Are valve covers swapable?

Are cams interchangable?

Fly wheels and rotors?

etc...

Thanks for any insite.

There are really no parts that are swapable between the two bikes.

Looking at a parts list of the engine there are less than 10 parts that are the same on both engines (and those probably are used on other Honda engines as well)...

I started digging trough some fiche last night. I'm starting see many of the differences. Not a terribly big deal. Thought it might be a novel idea to swap some stuff over. Thanks guys.

Just turn it into a street fighter. They usually don't re-use all the parts anyway.

;)

This is from Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_VTR1000F )...
Racing variant
In 2000 Honda produced the RVT1000R (RC51) known outside the United States as the VTR1000 SP-1, though the bike had only four engine parts in common with the SuperHawk. The RC51 was an entirely new V-twin racing platform that won the Superbike World Championship in its first year of racing with Colin Edwards and the Castrol team.

What parts they are, I do not know.

nothing is really the same

I have looked at this before just for shits and giggles. The only thing that is the same really is the over all "look" of the engine. The RC has Gear Driven Cams, so you can pretty much count out everything from the crank up, and everything connected to the crank. The Gear ratios are totally differant cause of the higher HP onthe RC. Electronics are all differant cause of the FI. and the list goes on. I was mistaken when i first looked at an RC thinking "oh its just a FI high horsepower VTR". negative ghost rider the pattern is full.

That was the impression I was under untill I really started looking into the bike. Honestly, I fell into this bike last week. Don't know too much about them yet. Worked on a few Rc51's, but the VTR is scarse in my town.

Thanks for the input everyone. Back to the drawing board.
