Engine Problems - Will not Rev past 3000rpm

hey guys,
I was riding when I suddenly lost engine power and couldnt get it to rev past 3000rpm. However, the engine starts and idles fine and sounds good at idle. I recently put in APE CCTs so i took the bike apart to see if the timing chain skipped or if it was loose but the timing was still correct and chain tension was fine. I then thought it might be a bad TPS sensor but from what little I've been able to find the bike should still be able to ride with a bad TPS, just a little sluggish. I checked the connector going to the tps and get 5v through the multimeter but had had difficulty getting it to read an ohm reading. Is the TPS sensor the issue? I dont want to throw a $100 sensor at it if its not the problem.
-thanks

PVLIR!

If that means nothing to you, search that term here on the forum.

Oh, and welcome.

Dangit, beat me.

Yeah, that sensor is very low on the list of things it would be. Vacuum lock possibly. Has the bike been sitting or in the rain or did you fill it really full recently? This would cause a vacuum in the tank and not allow enough fuel to reach the carbs. Quick check for this is to try running it with the gas cap open.

Maybe one of your coils isn't working properly or connected fully.

My rear coil wire came loose and did this once...

Absolutely, I fought a problem like this for quite some time, and after much wasted time and money... It was a weak coil... consistent but WEAK. The color of the spark is what finally tipped me off and it was subtle, but occasionally yellow instead of blue all the time...

Coil,Coil,Coil!

I have been having odd problems with bike,my ideas lead me to this,I have new ones coming thank god.
Only other thing it could be for me is valve adjustments or bad/dirty valves.but this is just my issue.
I would really check those coils too.

Good time to upgrade to sticks!

Forget about the TPS for now. You could unplug it and the engine will still run quite well.

I would suspect a problem with the carb slides not opening, such as a torn slide diaphragm.

it turns out it was PVLIR after all - the hose didn't have a connector on it so it must have come loose while i was on the road. thanks for all the help guys, now i can get back to riding again!

No no, that's too easy. Take off the valve covers and rip out your coils and may as well pull the headers off too just to be sure there's nothing in the way of the exhaust ;)

Check the routing of the hoses that go to the tank, one time I switched 2 of them and had a similar problem
