EBC floating rotors
 

I have a gsxr front end on my bike and front wheel with EBC floating rotors..how much play should there be in the rotors..I can move them side to side and up and down when mounted on the bike and brakes?

to my knowledge you should never be able to move them like that. all sport bike rotors are floating now. the stock ones are too. it just allows for expansion when they heat up.

so the full supersport ones that require rebuilding are not different?

Full-floating rotors will move a little bit. How much are they moving?

I have them mounted and on the bike and in the calipers and I can move it side to side mmm a little but wiht no effort as well as up and down

Can you measure it? Is it a large amount, as in inches? One or two millimeters is fine.

I am pretty sure it is more than a millimeter or 2, i think i can feel the rotor shift a little when braking hard?

Again, they are full floating, so they are supposed to move a little to maintain contact with the brake pads.

Did you check to see if all the rotor buttons are torque'd to spec?

Call EBC and ask them. Those race only rotors need to rebuilt with new buttons every once in a while- why? Because they loosen up over time.

Powerfull stopping power huh?

Mine have quite a lot of play as well , think it's normal for these rotors.

after a while the spring washers seem to lose tension or wear.
the rotors start to make some noise, and later I had to replace the the rotors due to carrier wear (soft aluminum carriers)

I remember now!

As the carriers wore and got more play, they started wearing even faster and hammering the soft carriers more.
so I started trying creative ideas to tighten them up.
But ended up replaceing the carriers in the end.

Doubt you'll see this though, I think these rotors had like 60,000 miles on them before they got this bad.
