Down On Power - CCT Issue?
Hi, I searched and read many CCT related articles on this forum however didn't find anything that specifically referenced my symptoms... Maybe someone here can confirm if this is a CCT related issue?
While down shifting through the gears - The Superhawk's Stain-tunes sound so good doing this - I felt a little 'hick up'. After that moment, it was noticeably down on power. It starts and runs but feels more like a 750cc VTR. After failing to find anything wrong, I decided to take it into the dealer. Dealer did a compression test and leak down test. Here are the results: Leak Down: F = 15%, R = 20% Compression: F = 115, R = 120 My VTR is a 1998 with 32,000 miles. It has the original CCTs. Thanks Ron |
airfilter? hoses esp vacuum firmly in the right place with no holes/spilts? - same for the petcock diaphragm. Carbs need cleaning - gummed up? old fuel?
Plugs?, plug caps firmly on? It has the original CCTs. CCT failure is binary - either they work or they don't - with the bike producing the sound of a cement mixer full of metalic junk... |
Are you mechanically inclined enough to pull the cam covers and check timing?
This is the next step I'd take. |
Just an update... I asked the dealer to check engine timing yesterday.

Get them some manual cct's and never worry about it again! You're on borrowed time.
