Dies Under Hard Braking
 

I know this has probably been covered before but I noticed that if I am coming to a stop, and slow down gradualy, all is fine. If I stand it on it nose the RPMs will drop and it will die. What have I missed?

There's a carb overflow hose that runs through the carb brackets that's routed through a tight bend that can get kinked - take a peek underneath the airbox next time you're under there. Symptoms as you've described are for it to happen under ermergency heavy braking.

Mine had this and I moved the breathers to face down. It would get a bit exciting on the track when it did it.

I believe there was a Honda service bulletin on it.

I know exactly what you are talking about. They are the only hoses I didn't mess with. They still have the original dust and grime on them. I'll take a look the next time I have the air box off.

I have started to compensate by pulling the clutch and rolling the throttle on a bit. For me, it's too much to remember when you have cars to worry about.

Suffered from that issue - pulled the carb vent lines out of the carb braces, pointed them straight down, trimmed the ends at an angle - no more issue.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll have to pull the air box one more time. It would be so bad but I filled the tank. Isn't that they way it always works?

With patience you can re-route the vent lines with tank and airbox in place

I ran them straight, but I still have issues once in a while at the track.
4 or 5 times at Road America yesterday, iirc.
As stated...under heavy braking. Irritating.

Next time I'm in under there, maybe I'll try the 'pointed down' and angle cut hoses.

Something I remembered that is very important. In fact it should be a sticky.

Cut the rear hose shorter if you do this. I had the hose get stuck under the throttle stop on the carbs and jammed the throttle wide open. I had this just before a turn.

Cut the hose so it cant reach the carb stop for the throttle.

It is only the front carb which needs the line rerouted and there is no need to cut angles in the hoses.

Mike, is there anything wrong with simply removing the hoses? Or actually, just the front hose.

No, or at least I have run mine without the breather hoses for a bit over 10 yrs now with no problems.
