Dead Battery...again

Stumped.

My hawk is bone stock aside from the paint & the HID headlight (which I just removed due to a bad ballast)

New battery in May.
again, no add ons.... let it sit for 2 weeks & it would just barley crank when I hit the key.

Typically I put the tender on it if I know I wont be riding anytime soon but 2 weeks? really?

Its a 2000 so I don't have a digital dash, as Ive heard some say the clock will drain the battery,.... One thought is that she's got 26K mi. Could the rectifier (or whatever style charging system the hawks use) be going bad? Running off battery power, rather than self sustaining power while running?

thoughts? suggestions?

Search site for 'rectifier' a common problem on the VTR.

As Wicky said look at the rectifier as the main culprit. I recently went though similar issues and used this flow chart to help me diagnose the charging problem. In my case it was the stator. And I had already upgraded my rectifier. Which due to not charging slowly killed my battery.

Awesome. I'll look into this. Thanks!

While I agree that the problem most likely is your R/R, its not unheard of to just get a bad battery as well. Its happened to me once before

You said you were going to work with all that gear on (in your avatar), but I been watching, and you didn't leave.

It could be by replacing the battery you have cured the symptom and not the cause. Did you check the R/R at the same time as putting a new battery on. If you do change the R/R then make sure that the battery is working fine because if either the R/R or Battery are faulty it could end up taking out the other. You could get caught in an endless loop of changing one or the other. So make sure that both items are full functional.
