A couple of questions, spedometer and suspension.
I changed the rear sprocket to a 43 and it seems that either the bike got faster ,or the speedo is out of whack.
I sure noticed the shorter wheelbase combined with the lower final gearing makes for a wicked wheelie bike  ,but I simply wont belive it was that fast. Maybe the old bicycle speedo/odo trick may be in order?? Also,I have raised the rear end by shimming it,and twisted the preload all the way,the bike now spits me whenever I hit anything bigger than an adult lizzard,so I m ight want to back off a couple of clicks,I noticed what seems to be a rebound adjust in the shock, but could not acces it with any of my tools(it sucks) |

Yup, speedo is out of wack on regular gearing by about 8% from what I've read and changing your gearing will make it worse.

Re: A couple of questions, spedometer and suspension.
I was using the first position on the stock shock.
more than that there was no static sag. you can adjust shock "rebound" at the right side of the bike with a screwdriver easily, bike on its side stand. raising the rear would be more tricky to access it... Try with a guy on your storm ... 1 turn out seems to be ok for a lot of storm riders. |
Re: A couple of questions, spedometer and suspension.
Thanks guys.
Since this might be my introductory post,I have to introduce myself. FYI,I use the VTR as a racing/track tool. Not that its the best ever track bike, but it was avalible at a fairly good price in mint condition,so I took the plunge. The speedometer is useless, even if it was calibrated OK you can not see the friggin numbers unless you wear magnifuing glasses,I will go along my girlfriends car at a 100MPH(indicated by her car) and just mark it down with a real colorful mark,so I know this is "The Zone" and equally mark the tacho from 5,000 to 9,000,for track use. I have used the bike for my first race ever and I came up 4th out of 17 riders, including 4 or 5 Ducatis, and quite a few 4 inlines japanes riceburners,so I got to admit Im in some kind of love with my Chick... erm...Hawk!! I also have a Yamaha FJR1300 that I absolutly love, and a Kawasaki KLR650 that I love too,for diferent reasons.I would love to have a RC51 ubt for now,I'll stick to the Hawk, since it wont go past 145-150,it might be a good thing for me. http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/1627/lapollo7lp.jpg |
