counter shaft seal
does the case have to be split to put the seal in? the one behind the front sprocket? it has a little lip on it which makes me think it does

This was discussed a while back in detail. Do a search.
In short, I would, but you may not have to. |
i searched and found the one thread talking about this...is there an easy to get it open far enough to get the seal in but not have to undo any of the main bearings or sleeves and all that i pulled the seal out already and have no choice now but id rather not pull everything completely apart... if not looks like ill be freshining it up in there while its apart

NO DO NOT SPLIT YOUR CASE.!!. it slips out. I had a leak on my 98 about 7 month ago. Cost me 40 labor and a 10 dollar part ..... there is a rubber seal glued inside a metal sleeve that sits about 1.5 inches out from the rubber seal... trust me.. i just had this done.... look at the micro fische. you see the inner seal connected to a laeger metal housing or disk. It must be pressed into the case .. I looks like a frisbee ..... i posted pics somewhere here youll see..
here https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...+counter+shaft see the outer black ring that runs about 1/4 inch in from the case. That whole thing pulls out...all that dented area came out.. |
i know the seal comes out the thing bothering me is that lip is on the seal and it clearly has a channel for the lip on the case. the lip wont let it go in and i feel uneasy about grinding it down if honda put it there. i know some said its no big deal, but i dont want to have it pop out on me later down the line. so it sits now as im getting ready to move and still have a few projects to finish... not a good time to start on a new one. has anyone had any problems with the ground seal?
