Cooling fan help/ideas?
 

I have been in the process of fixing and undoing many really stupid things the previous owner did to this bike. I am amazed he didn't do any harm to the motor. He had the cooling fan switch wire grounded so it would run all the time. I hooked it back to switch and putted around the block a few times to see if I could get temp up to active switch. When I started seeing temps in the low 190s, I stopped trying. At what temp is it supposed to activate? Anyone have a low budget fix/mod for better fan function??

100*c... so 212*F give or take a few degrees. I'd worry if it goes past 215 without turning on. Make sure it's pushing air through the rad, not pulling it.

Define "better fan function". Stock fan works OK for what it does. You can have it turn on sooner if you want...

Lower temp switch, manual switch. Whats ideal running temp on this bike? Gonna start getting pretty warm here soon, don't want cooling issues.

This one starts at 217* and lowers the temp fast.

Try searching some things out, brother. If you type "radiator fan switch" or any variant in the search box , you'll get many results. The thread below has a part number of a switch that some of us have found to be a good alternative to the factory installed one. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Finally got bike road worthy and was brave enough to run temp up to see if fan switch functioned. It will come on at 222, cool down quickly to 219 and shut off. Its 85 deg. today and it consistently hovered in the 217-223 range in stop and go traffic. I cant get over how hot these bikes run. will install manual switch in conjunction with auto for piece of mind.

That sounds on the hotter side to me. I'm not a fan of the manual switch... it's just one more thing to worry about.

I don't know the bike or situation, but first thing I would do is a good flush and replacement of coolant. Old coolant and air bubbles in the system will cause more problems than you'd think.

Second, an option is to replace the fan switch with Nissan part # 21595-01A00, found at auto stores or online. This switch has the proper threads but turns on 15*C cooler than the stock one. You will have to add a ground wire, but that's not hard at all.

It's been awhile since I had the manual fan switch on, so I could be wrong, but I think it should be click on sooner (and fault is more than likely bubbles in the system or improperly functioning radiator cap, not fan switch itself). Others may have better reference for this, though.

I've been riding mine in stop/go Tampa traffic since 2007 and never had a single issue with my fan kicking on @ almost 220 degrees man.

No problem, man. In the cooler months, you'll have a hard time keeping it that hot, mine usually runs 180 - 190 in 55 degree ambient temps. That's as low as I ride. But yeah, IIRC my bike seems to really "like" 200 degrees. That's where she purrs... Or clucks?
