Coolant system burp - how?
Hello,
In anticipation to my upcoming Mid Ohio track day I drained all the coolant and replaced with water wetter, distilled water and a little antifreeze for lubrication. Ambient temp outside is about 75 degrees and after bike running for a few minutes temp went to half way on the temp gauge, fans kicked on temp lowered but just below the half way mark. Went for a test ride hoping to move what little air may be trapped in the system but to no avail. It ran cooler prior to adding the water wetter any ideas on how to burp my bike? I appreciate it. |
Could it be the change in fluid? That is where my bike runs all the time...

Do u mean bleeding the coolant system? There is a sure way to do this. run till the fan kicks in. pour water till it is at the brim. make sure the radiator cap rubber is not swollen/ hard/ jam. pour water over the max mark at the reserviour. go ride it till its hot. cool it down. check coolant level again.

Yeah I did that exact process but thought it would run cooler is all. I'll keep playing with it. Thanks!

water wetter and distilled is probably all you want to do for the track. adding regular coolant is actually restricted by a lot of trackday orgs and/or tracks.
regular coolant is very difficult to clean off the track. Water Wetter - mixed as suggested Engine Ice - no mixing and has some protection from freezing in winter Both of these have proper lubricating and cooling formulas for a motorcycle. ----------- burping...I thought 3-4 minutes of warm up, then crack the throttle a few times would burp the system (according to manual)? |
Yep all is well. I put a little antifreeze for lubrication purposes only. Its such a tiny amount it didnt change the color or the mix.
Thanks for writing in ! |

Thanks for writing in ! I know that if you where to dump that on a track where I was reponsible for cleanup, you'd get a nice little bonus payment at the end of the session... The smallest amount of it in the water makes the spill "greasy" and a PITA to get off the track surface... Takes multiple passes with the chalk and brushes, and wastes everyone's time, annoying people to no end... |
