Clutch slipping problem, advice?
 
First a little history, SHawk is a '99 with 9,600 miles. Adult owned and ridden, never abused. Oil/filter changes with non-synthetic oil every 3k miles.

I recently did some mods, Pazzo levers, Coerce counter shaft sprocket cover(CSSC), and changed oil to Mobil1 4T 10/40 synthetic. Prior to mods there were no issues with the clutch.

While the CSSC was off all parts were thoroughly cleaned. The clutch MC, line, and slave cylinder were flushed and bled using a MightyVac and DOT 4 fluid, no banjo lines were broken.

Now for the problem. When cold the clutch was grabby, after warm it slips.

If I ride easily, with small amounts of throttle it shifts fine and will go down the road normally. As soon as I open the throttle it slips badly.

Any suggestion? Is the synthetic oil too slippery? Has the Pazzo clutch lever, or Coerce CSSC changed clutch actuation? Do I need a new clutch after only 9.6k miles?

Your clutch is very likely fine. The issue is probably with the with the clutch slave. The hydraulic clutch is known to be really tough to blead.

Some members have reported different oils causing their clutch to slip, but you may want to bleed the lines again... 8541Hawk has had this cause his clutch to slip inexplicably.

Try it with the stock countershaft sprocket cover.

changed oil to Mobil1 4T 10/40 synthetic.
Go back to your original oil or try semi-synthetic (recommended)

Some oil can cause this issue. Fews years back on a Aprilia Mille, changed oil with for some very expensive AGIP sythetic superduperslippery shit. First ride out not able to do any wheelie! Changed the oil all good. Try the oil change thing first.

I run Mobil 4T 10w-40 with no problems. In fact the bike shifts better with it than any other oil I tried.

Try to re bleed the system before you do anything else.

Since this is actual motorcycle oil, I would change that out last..

My vote is the hydraulic system in some fashion, that or the sprocket cover.

Thanks Guys, good advise. I'll try to bleed the slave cylinder again first, then try the factory CSSC if the bleeding doesn't work. Finally go back to the non synthetic oil last. I really wanted to use the systhetic though. I'll post when I get it workin.

Do you have the gasket under the slave cylinder? How about Pos # 3&4 on this diagram:Honda, ATV Parts, Scooter Parts, Motorcycle Parts,CRF,CR,MX Parts, Goldwing parts

If you left any of those bits out, that could also cause your problems. ;)

I found the problem. When I put the Coerce CSSC on I failed to put the stamped steel gasket from the Honda CSSC on (color me dumbass). I didn't realize that it was a separate part as it was stuck to the magnesium cover. I got to looking at the distance the clutch actuation rod was moving and realized it wasn't allowing the clutch to completely engage. So I put the steel plate on under the Coerce part(next to the transmission case) and the clutch functions fine.:)
