Chain Time
Well as spring gets closer I would like to start purchasing things I need to replace this year on my 2002 SH. I'm sure after 8000miles it needs little things. Chain, CCTs, oil change.
I need a new chain, where can I get one for a decent price or what do you recommend? I'm looking for a strong stock replacement. Thanks Trent |
I ordered mine from Terra Powersports. (www.terra-powersports.com/)
I purchased a Regina chain. It's held up well so far. I would recommend changing your sprockets at the same time as the change. |
What it the sprockets are in good shape? I dont want to change the gearing because I'm happy with the gearing as is. Anyone know how much stock sprockets are?

Re: Chain Time
Are you sure you need a new chain? I've got 8k on my bike and have not even had to adjust the chain after it was adjusted at 2k miles. I'm not running around punching it or anything though. The chain is still in great shape on my bike. If you live in a dusty area you need an air filter. You might want to replace your plugs, oil and possibly coolant.
If your chain is worn then your sprockets are too and you should replace both at the same time. |
I'm pretty sure the chain is a little warped...if you hold the rpms it has a lag/go, lag/go feeling. The oil is getting changed, the plugs were changed at 6000miles so their good. And the bike has a K&N already.

Re: Chain Time
just replaced chain and sprockets. I also had the lag-go as you call it. It was also noticeable when adjusting the chain on a rear stand. There was a definite tight spot. Once replaced, the ride is fluid again. The tight spot was making sweepers a lot less steady.

It's similar to changing the oil filter at every oil change or every other. |
Awh excellent. So is there a good place to get just stock replacement sprockets or should I just go to the stealership for those?
Now where is a good place to purchase the chain? |
I buy my stuff through Terra Powersports.

I cant find the parts on their website. Guess I should just call them...

Try ronayers.com for stock parts. They have an online micro fiche and stock part numbers. The shipping is quick as well.

There's also that guy on Ebay selling the 520 conversion chain and sprocket combo for around $125. Don't have his URL but just search for 520 conversion chain and you'll see his little gold combo deal, etc.
