Chain size
I need to replace my stock chain, what is the correct size? 520 or 530. Thanks for the help.

530
102 links (but that might be different depending on your gearing) |
Re: Chain size
awesome, thanks for the help. Nobody at the shops could give me a clear answer, seemed like an easy enough question.

This is what I used to figure it out:
http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/html/honda8.shtml Scroll down to the 7th from the bottom entry, and that will list the SuperHawk as well as if you decide to go with a 520 chain. |
Re: Chain size
Whats the difference between a 520 and 530? heavy duty'ness therefore weight? pros cons?
|
The 530 is a heavier chain. The 520 is lighter. The 520 should give you faster acceleration at the cost of longevity.
|
4-5 ounces. That's all.

Re: Chain size
Might be a good mod. if you race & need to reduce weight AMAP, but certainly not "up to code" for a torquer like the 'Hawk. I'd think longevity would be the biggest issue.

On a torqey bike like VTR I would not recommend a 520 chain. Frankly, I do not recommend it on any bike that doesn't come OEM with it, as the performance improvements are not as much as they are made up to be. Remember, most racers and factory racers do change their chains and such more frequently, so for them the weight savings (no matter how small) are worth it.
The way I look at it: if you are a fast enough guy who is utilizing the bike's abilities to the level where you need to go to a smaller chain, you are at a level that won't need to ask others about the differences. :D |
