CBR1000 Sidestand yrs

1 Attachment(s)
So I know this is old, but after putting a spacer on the shock mount over my penske shock, I was looking for a cbr sidestand.

Does anyone know off hand what years is best? It looks like 04-6 is the same & 07-11 is the same, but so they both bolt up & are they the same length?

Much thanks to anyone who can skim this out of their memory banks.

I have this lowering plate but its still too tilty

mikstr 05-11-2013 04:44 PM

IIRC, 04-07 are same, bike was redesigned in 08, so new sidestand (made from Al I beleive). I am running one from first gen and it works fine.....

smokinjoe73 05-11-2013 06:42 PM

First gen works fine with a taller rear suspension?

Does anyone know if the newer ones are useable/ longer, etc?

Upland111 05-11-2013 11:13 PM

I bought and installed mine, the e-bay link claimed it was a 04-07. It works fantastic, about 3/4" longer than the stock stand, I just had to file the stop, add a extention to the tang, and paint it. I have a DMr CBR600 modded shock w/ a 2.5mm spacer.

Hey Joe, it is old, here is a reference thread we had:
https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...kstands-24151/

Upland111 05-12-2013 08:25 AM

Hey NHSH, Bingo on the thread, really glad I went this route. Thanks.....

smokinjoe73 05-12-2013 09:56 AM

Yeah, NHSH, thanks for that link (I did search for it) but it only mentions the 1st gen stand. I guess I'll order one of those.

smokinjoe73 05-12-2013 11:49 AM

OK bought an 05 so will report on fitment.

I am looking at this option as well. I'm assuming you got it bolted up? Was it a straight bolt on, plug & play?

smokinjoe73 03-30-2015 11:24 AM

Ha, crux, actually its still in my parts box. I had fabbed up a bracket for the stocker and never got to put it on. Someday.

CruxGNZ 03-30-2015 11:54 AM

I just purchased a brand new, never used '06 CBR1000RR kickstand on eBay. I'll post how it goes. Should be here by the end of the week. I wanted to get a cool looking aftermarket kickstand and there are a few out there (adjustable height, CNC'd aluminum), but after some thought and pricing those aftermarket ones out...it's just a darn kickstand.

Wolverine 03-30-2015 03:04 PM

@ one point, I explored that option as well Crux. Eager to see your pics.

smokinjoe73 03-30-2015 03:08 PM

Yeah and those aftermarket ones just don't look as strong to me.

Holding this NOS sidestand up next to the stock sidestand, as you can see, it is quite a bit longer than stock. It almost seems like it would be too long. I'll throw 'er on and see what happens.

To be continued...

You could just tip the bike up to see what angle it will hold it at.

Assuming your bike is raised(?)

The CBR is a little bit longer than the VTR an ligther, so you have to cut it .

skokievtr 04-19-2015 08:23 PM

What's the "little mod", I can't tell from your photos.

I've evaluated the aftermarket adjustable side stands but I believe they are designed to enable shortening the length to compensate for lowered ride height. Does any one know they're length. One site from Australia said they enabled 5 ~ 7 inch length from "bend". But the biggest problem is they have no "toe rod" to lower and raise it. With the used CBR1000 units you have to be careful as many are shortened and the cheapest I found one for is $45 with shipping! Does anyone know if the 954 stand will work too?

I just took a gamble on an 02~03 954 side stand for $23...

NHSH 04-27-2015 09:08 PM

VTRorist, nice bike!

The only modification you may need is to grind the bracket at the stopper on the kick stand down position, just so the kick stand will lean forward enough for the bike not to roll forward.
And yes, for this mod' to work, your bike needs to be raised in the rear, like most do.

Cadbury64 05-07-2015 05:22 PM

I've got a 6mm shock spacer installed with the stock shock, and the bike leaned over too far for my comfort. I purchased a new CBR1000 sidestand p/no 50530-MEL-000 from my local dealer, as stated above the mounting bracket needs a bit of filing so the new stand can lock forward when extended, but otherwise it is a straightforward parts swap. The stand works great and the bike now leans a more "normal" amount. I even find the foot tang easier to access than the original for some reason.

Cheers mate, glad that helped

CruxGNZ 05-07-2015 08:41 PM

I have my NOS sidestand just sitting on my work bench. I really need to fit this up. When I put the kickstand down, my bike looks like it's drunk or something.

I was looking at those, but someone mentioned that they might only shorten, not lengthen from stock size. Have you installed it already? If so, post a review please.

+1 for shortening (opposite from our issue) and they have no toe rod to lower or raise it!

And they will fold over or fracture at the pivot if you put much more weight on it but a leaning bike.

erno 05-11-2015 05:02 AM

Guys over here use the cbr954,also 00/01 cbr blackbird stands

skokievtr 05-11-2015 09:22 AM

I gambled on an 02~03 954 side stand for $23 and it was a "FAIL" because the pivot bolt is different, the switch is located on the "back" side of the stand along with the index hole in the stand that rotates the inner portion of the switch and indexing pin for the stationary half of the switch!

07 1000RR side stand

4 Attachment(s)
Hey Guys, I used an 07 1000RR side stand for my conversion. Only swapped the stand out. Used original bracket with switch and bolt. Had to grind down the bracket stop until I had the angle/lean I liked for the bike. Also had to bend the push rod a little to clear my pipes while up. Overall great conversion and easy to do. Cost for me was 28 for the stand only new on ebay. Hope the pics help.
