Carb sync - Idle set - Idle drop - Video Inside

What do you guys think of this sync... I still see the idle wavering a bit, but that could just be the v-twin, eh? (Still getting used to syncing a twin. Done lots of i-4's).

I tried to do an idle drop, but i installed jack's screws with pruple loctite and now they won't budge with only my fingers :)

I'm going through all this because i still can't get my bike to run on the choke... And Hawk won't help me (LOL)...

The video shows your carbs not sync'd yet, but the idle sounds decent.

I use the same Two Bottle method and really like it.

2nd video. I reset the idle to 1200. Reset the levels in the carb sync bottles. Temps are higher here, but the tach variance is definitely looking better at idle. Thoughts?

(Sorry, i posted the wrong link before. Here is the correct link)

Get the air out of the crossover line. Adjust your carbs, so that the level of fluid in each bottle is the same. Then your carbs are balanced.

Please see corrected link above.

There ya go. Perfectly balanced carbs now :)

When you rev the engine up, on the way back down, you have a hesitation or "hang" at 2,000-2,200 RPM's. This indicates you are lean at idle. Try to break those fuel screws free of that Locktite and give them a half turn out and see how she is.

You really don't need Locktite on the fuel screws. Those springs keep pressure on the screws preventing them from backing out.

I just restarted the bike, now at a lower temp. Not much of a hanging tach needle now... Here is video 3.

Looks good!

thedeatons 04-12-2015 01:44 PM

So you guys think that is good? Tach variance looks normal?

The bike still won't run on the choke when cold... Back to posting in my choke help thread :(

I know I'm the only one who has been posting in this thread, so I'm assuming that its because other members feel the same. Your carbs look perfectly balanced now and the idle sounds like all the other Superhawks I have heard, which is + or - ~100 RPM's. I would guess that is just a trait of our V-Twin engine. It won't be almost rock solid like a inline 4.

Thank you. Case closed on this one then. Hopefully these videos will help someone in the future :)

Case reopened on this, as I just unscrewed my adjustable mixture screws, out by 1/4 turn each... Now it won't idle when cold again.

It's amazing how sensitive these carbs are to adjustment! Looks like I need to re-sync again :)

I did the mixtures on mine with the sync tool still attached .

I found that the rear mixture had to be set different to the front to get a perfect sync.

This is a cold engine with the choke out, correct? And it still won't idle? 1/4 turn out shouldn't have affected it THAT much.

thedeatons 06-21-2015 09:11 PM

Yah it did, i was surprised too.

I'll try and resync tomorrow.

It was perfect before tweaking the screws :)
