Carb Sync
Hi Guys,
When syncing the carbs is the adjustment screw/bolt located on the left hand side of the bike, infront of the rear cylinder facing forward? If so, how the hell do you get in there. I can just get in there with an extention, a knuckle and a 7mm but its a pain in the ass. Is there an easier way? |
thats the way i do it, doesnt seem hard to me...

i find the thermostat is in the way

I use a 1/4" drive extension, universal joint, 7 mm. socket and a good flashlight. I wrap the joint with a layer of electrical tape so the socket doesn't flop around as much. A Phillips head screw driver with a flexible shaft works too. The job gets easier with practice.

i've got a Motion Pro 90deg carb tool i picked up a long time ago for mucho bucks. i was using it with a 7mm socket the other day to sync my carbs. as i was squirming around, i managed to knock off the socket with the MP drive end. i spent a good hour with multiple flashlights trying to locate those precious items. good thing. in the process i noticed that i'd not placed the carb cooling hose clamp that sends coolant from the thermostat, and the hose end was weeping coolant.
remove tank, airbox, front cowl, unseat carbs. what fun. i found the MP end and socket down in between the cylinders. [man! it just started raining monsoon-style here!] |

Thanks for asking the question - i was looking at mine the other day and thinking the same thing. well i guess i have to stop thinking about now and just do it.

I just started the bike and stopped it several times to tweek the adjustment, each time I would turn the rear throttle adjustment clockwise so I could access the bolt, made my adjustments with a spanner wrench.

1/4" drive driver handle (screw driver type) 3" extension, 1/4" drive U joint (wrap one layer of light tape around the u joint so it does not flop all the way over), 7mm socket. makes the task VERY easy.

I'm still in process of getting to syncing the carbs when I stumbled upon this thread. Have any of you guys tried if something like this works?

Kind of, but with existing tools.
Attachment 24606 Craftsmen 1//4" stuff 7mm socket 2" extension 2" flex drive extension 1/4 drive driver handle all but the flex drive come in even the most basic Craftsmen 1/4" drive set. |
I personally don't like the flex drives as they tend to "wind up" and then turn to far.
Also lifting the rear of the tank slightly makes the adjustment much easier. |
