The way I have done them is like this:

First take a small piece of tape and by reaching through the slide ( like you would put the needle in) put it on the back side of the hole you want to plug.

Then take a small dab on epoxy ( I normally use some 30 min cure time stiff but just about any will work, also the brand really isn't that important as long as its a "name brand") and fill the hole.

I don't end up with near as big a lump on the outside of the slide a 7moore7 did but either should work, I just don't like to do anything that "might" disrupt the airflow past the slide. So I would just put enough in there to fill the hole but still keep the level flush with the end of the slide.

I used 6 min plastic epoxy- I was debating on how much of a "lump" to leave as I didn't want the epoxy to be breaking off inside of my carbs. It's filed down, so has a pretty flat profile, but could probably be smoothed out all the way now that it's had a couple days to cure fully....

I bet if I did this there'd be no problem as the air pressure in these things isn't enough to mess up the epoxy.

I have been looking at the manaul and 7moore7's pics my slide looks different. Mine has four holes (with the slide) and 7moore7 has three. Is mine aftermarket or stock? Previous owner said everything was stock that's why I assumed it was. How do I get the needle out?

Previous owner full of $#it, front cyclinder 180 main and 45 pilot, back cyclinder 185 main and 45 pilot. What to do now go back to stock?

Those are set up for a DynoJet kit and the extra hole is the additional lift hole they have you drill.

To get the needles out take one of the screws from the diaphragm cover and screw it into the needle holder (you can see it in the pics 7moore7 posted) and then just pull it out.

Well you would need needles, main jets and slide springs to return it to stock configuration.

When you pull the slides apart, if the needle just has a pinhead like a nail, then it's stock. If it has a clip with 5 or so different positions that it can be placed in, then it's a jet kit. With the extra hole drilled, you probably have a jet kit needle in there as well.

Follow the pictures like a picture book to get the needle out!

Thanks you two for helping me out. Here's what I found. Somebody drilled out the slide and drilled right into the needle holder. Just like you two said it has a jet kit in it. Needles have five different sittings. The o-ring on both needle holders need to be replaced (fell apart when I took the needles out). Should I replace the needle holders since they both have a hole in them now (see pic)? The diaphram on the rear carb was folded. Luckily I was able to unfold it without breaking it. I haven't gotten to the mixture screws yet.Thanks again.

Needle holder and slide get drilled as part of installing a JD kit.. Seal the extra holes in the slide with epoxy, needle holder is fine the way it is.

Ain't that just the best!

As far as the holes thing, I'd replace the needle holder. It looks to me like having it there will have an effect on the air pushing through the holes, and you probably want to avoid that.

If you want, I have an extra set that I can sell you...

The JD kit has you drill a hole in the slide,, the needle holder covers the same spot in the slide, so it gets drilled as well.. If you seal the hole that is drilled, the hole in the needle cap is no longer an issue.. Call it what you want, air bleed, extra lift hole.. No matter,, Point is,, the needle holder is not a concern after you fix the hole in the slide.

Well the hole in the slide is a lift hole. Why DynoJet wants you to drill the needle holder also is kind of a mystery.

So you can either just reuse the needle holders and shouldn't have a real issue or replace the broken one and seal the hole in the other one if you would like.

7moore7 I just pm'ed you for the needle holders. I am still trying to decide on going back to the stock parts. My bike ran good last year except for a hiccup or carb fart at low rpm. I wasn't really happy with the acceleration in first and second gear though. I just set the TPS to 500ohms it was at 860. Maybe someone has the stock parts for sale and I can try both.lol.

Ok so now I have another question that I didn't think to ask before... If I had a FactoryPro kit installed, what other changes have been made, and what should I do to get to a base tuning setup? I ordered 48 pilots, have 178 rear and 175 front mains (stock air filter, aftermarket slipons, 1K ft elevation).

FactoryPro uses different needles and their own jets.
Did you want to try and use their needles?

IIRC FactroyPro jets are sized the same as the stock ones, unlike DynoJet.

(that is a 175 FactoryPro jet is the same as a 175 Honda one but a 175 DynoJet one is different from either of those)

Nope, I'm going back to shimming the stock needles- I'm trying to set it up as base line as possible so that if I have any issues with your suggested setup, it'll be easier to diagnose/tune.

I've shimmed the rear needle about .040" and the front one about .035". I won't have the tank in for about a week and a half, so there's no rush, but don't want to miss anything.

Is there a visual difference? Because I have another set of jets that I'm almost positive are stock. I could just switch them out and not worry about it... for some reason I didn't think to do this before.

No clue, I have a Factory Pro jet kit sitting in a box at home, but have never pulled my carbs apart.

This is the information I have also. I have never tried it myself, so I can't say 100%.
