Carb Cleaning suggestions
 

Hey all,

I have been lurking and searching through the forum for a few days, and can't seem to find just a simple article on how to clean the carbs. This is my first carbed bike, after a 929RR, and R6... I've never had to clean carbs before, but my bike has been sitting for a good 2 years from the previous owner, it sure sounds like they need a good work over. Any suggestions or articles to point me to?

It's harder to get to the carbs then clean them.

You'll need some good screw drivers, basic hand tools, some real carb cleaner (ok lots of good carb cleaner) I'd suggest some nitrile gloves and safety glasses. Take lots of dig pics, keep your work area clean and covered with a soft towel.... it will help catch small parts as they fall :lol: You'll most likely find lots of gooey brown junk in the bowls, hard varnish in the jets.

Make sure you clean the tank and filter as well.

I'd suggest the same things TXSuperChicken did.

I'd like to add that Berrymans B12 Chemtool seems like a really good carb cleaner. Fumes are sure to be toxic, but it does the job.

This sound like a tough case but Yamaha's carb cleaner is an excellent product. It is mixed with fresh gas and poured directly into the carbs via the fuel line not the tank. Shake and drain. Tough cases like yours would need additional flushes and/or sitting overnight.

It has a real good rep on old bike forums.

Shayne - What filter? Do you mean the screens in the carb float needles?
