Cam Chain Tensioner failure?

I am not trying to be lazy, because i did search the forum to see if anyone has had a cam chain tentioner fail on them, but has anyone had any problems? it cost me 1200 bucks on my KLR!! so i felt like it was a good question to ask.

Thanks :gatlin:

Speed, I personally have not had a failure, but I've heard of it happening, so during my 16K miles service I put on manual APE ccts you can find them for $45+shipping and you'll need 2:

sorry lazn, the link didnt work for me :( so... im at 22,000 miles and about to go on a 3500 mile trip through the neches trail and then some from dallas. I'm guessing its probably smart to do the switch to the APE cct's before the trip?

was just a search for cct

tons of threads on this subject. Together with the R/R the CCT are the only "bad" components on the bike.

alright thanks guys!

I wonder if we could just screw a bolt against the inside screw head, it would pinch the tensioner and pin it in place ?? I can't find the thread that were describing the exact component that fails, but I think it was the springs. At least it would take the slop out of the threads. Some people seem to do this for the noisy CCT's

Here's a thread about that same idea from a while ago i think theres a video
at the end about pulling springs and adding a bolt. when looking at video right click and save as..or it blows up when you try to stream it.(at least for me )

Im actually gonna try to find a used cct and make modifications to it. So if some one has an old used cct they wanna get rid of or dont trust anymore for cheap lemme know thanks.
