Brakes pulse, engine dies
 

01 Hawk. 2 questions.

1. have sanded the front rotors with garnet 100 grit paper and sprayed with brake cleaner but the brakes still pulse under hard braking. Any thoughts?

2. Some times the engine dies when I brake fairly hard. Clutch disengaged, doing 50-60 mph, moderately hard braking, speed reduced to 10-15 mph, engine stops but restarts easily with starter or bump start.

Quit pulling in the clutch until you're almost to a stop, for whatever reason the 'Hawk don't like it.

Well rotors don't bend, the pads melts on it and add spot thickness, use higher quality pads, they brake less when cold, but they won't melt as quickly.

Rotors only bend if you forget the disc lock... Or if you heat them to the point where they get all rainbow colored... Not very likely... Have at them with the paper again... Usually you can see the hotspots as slightly different shine in the metal... subtle difference though...

Brake cleaner doesn't help until you get the glazing of, so dont waste money and time on that until your arm is about to fall of from the sanding...

If you want to you can use a wire brush, just make sure to use a brand new one as they usually "store" things like grase/oil... Also be very carefull to use it evenly, rotating the disc in even sweeps... And use a solidly mounted one, not on a drill, that's a good way to hurt yourself...

Thanks for the info. The rotors are not bent or warped. I checked them with a dial indicator. .006 -.008 was the max deflection.

stalling: I run idling about 1300 rpms. set tps to 450-500.

brakes: you may want to read "understanding brakes" in the Knowledge Base section. I have the same issue with pulsing at hard application. checked all the rotor pistons. took brake pads out and sanded(laid on flat surface and sanded circular motion). Problem disappeared temporarily and recurred a bit different. have galpher pads. think I'll change. never had a problem before I put SS lines and galpher pads.
