brake and wheel question
 

I have a 98 hawk with 20k on it. The pads are ebc HH all the way around. The brake lever seems to take quite a long throw compared to other bikes ive ridden. I have galfer stainless lines but it still is a throw of well over an inch for locked up brakes. My friends have r-1's and gsxrs and their handles move less then a quarter inch. Does this seem strange? also, i have a wrecked 900rr i beleive its a 98, will the wheels bolt right up to my hawk? Thanks.

The rear wheel is a perfect fit, the front is a 16 and not a 17 though. The rotors are the same though and the wheel will fit but it will not be as stable and could be prone to shake. I have a 900rr rear and used to have an f3 wheel that match. I switched my front end and had to switch to an rc51 wheel instead so if your interested I still have it. As far as the brakes, how do you have the lever adjusted, when's the last time you changed fluids? It really shouldn't move that far but it's hard to tell without being there. You can also do mods for better brakes, (gsxr, rc51, etc..) do a search for that.

Hey superhawk22 thanks for the quick reply. The brakes are relatively strong but they just take a longer throw then other bikes like i said. How do you suggest adjusting the brakes? As far as the lever. Do you wanna PM me. then we could chat about this more. I could take a video clip of the lever throw. as lame as that would be.

There should be a turn-dial near the pivot of the lever which allows you to move the lever further in or out. Try playing with that.

Ive adjusted that dial but that just changes the actual lever distance not the stroke of the lever as far as i can tell.

I see. I would check the brake fluid next.

If it's not a feel thing where you could adjust it at the pivot then it's 1 of 3 things.
1.The fluid is old and needs to be flushed (cheap)
2.The pads have worn out allowing more throw from the pistons. (more expensive)
3.It's just weak Superhawk brakes compared to superbike brakes. (most expensive, replace master and calipers from donor superbike).
