Brake Upgrade!
 
Hey all, ive been doing some reading on this forum and being that stopping is of great importance to me, im ready for an upgrade. I think the Hawks brakes work, but i want better. I upgraded pads and it helped, but from what ive read the decision seems to be either 01-02 GSXR 6-pot calipers, 929rr, 954rr, and the RC upgrade...are the honda calipers the same for the 954,929, and RC? Im just not sure what to go with because the GSXR is hard to find and im ready to get it taken care of....here is a link of a few ebay auctions i found and am trying to see if i should jump on it or be patient and wait for the GSXR (the more the merrier (SP?) in my opinion) If anyone has some for sale let me know and check this link out to see what you guys think...any advice on the most logical package, let me know (i plan on having SS lines and good pads)

RC,929, and 954 and F4i calipers all work with minor milling or grinding...they are a great upgrade...recommend you get a 954 or RC master cylinder to complete the upgrade. I have a 954 mastercylinder with F4i calipers and ebc HH pads and braided lines. I went with the 954 due to the larger piston.

I have the GSXR calipers and LOVE the improvement, also went the extra mile and did a full front end and larger rotors which was AMAZING but don't know if you want to get yourself caught up in that addiction. :lol: The GSXR calipers are a direct fit but tend to be more expensive because they fit a lot of bikes as an upgrade and they only made them 2 years.

I think thats what im going to do, im just going to wait for the GSXR calipers and then eventually i want to do a front end swap!!!! I'll just add that to my wish list, if anyone knows of some for sale and dont want them :lol: , let me know....because i do!! :) So pretty much i need to do a lot to the hawk i just baught!! its in great cosmetic shape, it just needs some TLC...or maybe its just things i want to upgrade...like a clutch, APE CCT's, Brake upgrade, GSXR Regulator/ Rectifier, SS brake lines, Racetech Springs and valves...and the list goes on!!!! oh well i guess thats why we have hobbies!!! Thanks guys for all your help!!! let me know if there are any recommendations:cheers:

I did the gsxr caliper conversion, braided hoses and a brembo master cylinder - the difference is immense.

Thats what i want to do, does it really matter what brand MC i go with, will any motorcycle MC that is larger work on the hawk? You said you used a Brembo MC, what bike was it off of?

If you want to stay with Honda types...use a 954 or RC 51....I have heard of some using a 900RR ( to keep the same lever). A Hawk stock MC is 14mm piston I have a 19mm from a 954...I think 02 or 03.

You can check the size piston by looking at the MC (RC or 954) on the bottom they will stamp 19mm or 3/4. My hawk had 14mm on the bottom if I recall.

Hi, just wonder how do you connect brake switch bcause i heard aftermarket mc of Brembo have no brake banjo.

Who cares? You have a switch on the rear right?

You can get a pressure switch for those. Not everyone uses the rear brake all the time.

How did the pressure switch work to replace brake switch?
And i dont usually used rear brake. It is kind of funny to mention that after i put on my Moriwaki rearsets( in april) i didnot noticed my brake light was on all the time still last week, because i did not adjust rear brake switch right (what's an idiot me)

Brembo MC is their own after market part, expensive but excellent.

You can buy a banjo bolt with a brake light switch in it, then you just hook it up and off you go.

Gents, Are the 03 04 600RR callipers the same as the 959? I may have a pair lined up with mastercylinder (600RR), lever, braided lines

Emial the guy and ask him to measure from center bolt to center bolt and then you'll at least know if the distance is the same.
