My bet is Regulator, same symptom my had when regulator went bad. Search the forum, you should find numerous hits on this and discussions on which regulator to purchase as a replacement instead of the OEM VTR unit.

i did look through and a lot of people were just saying to get a new regulator nothing particular on type of regulator

Honestly, find a chunk of 15 minutes in your day an read through the first posts in that thread by tweety (MOSFET R/R one). It answers these questions and more and you'll be able to answer future ones without feeling in the dark. There's a lot of info, so it looks overwhelming so if you still have questions ask them, because there's not a one word answer to either.

-R1 is better than R6, but some fit better than others.
-Year specifically does not matter, but the newer ones are more likely to be MOSFET.

To make it easy, post #6 has a list of the best replacements.

I'm fortunate I knew of this issue before I bought my VTR but having the forum to read helped a lot. Many people come here looking for answers but fail to try the search feature as part of their search, I am guilty of that too. The regulator was the first thing I upgraded, I used the R1 unit. There are a lot of them available, they take a bit of fussing to fit but it's not difficult at all. I wouldn't have known about that unit if it weren't for this forum. Best advice to new members, read the knowledge base threads, use the search. If you can't find what you're looking for ask someone how to find it or better use the search. It's all in the past threads so spend a little time trying to search and get used to the way that function works. There are a lot of riders here willing to help but many of these questions have been addressed before.
