bike dies at light

Hello just picked up my 98 superhawk 996 only 9k miles on it. Only issue I have had is when I'm riding and I come to a stop it dies on me at a light. Starts right back up. I thought it was a freak thing so I kept riding and the next day it died when I came to a stop again. Any ideas?

Start with a carb sync.

Set idle to 1200 to help avoid carb fart stalls.

Get the carbs set up and then finish breaking in the engine as they all did that when they were new with low miles.

Adjusting your TPS to 500 ohms drastically changes the idle condition, for the better. Mine measured 800+ at factory setting. An easy task to do with good rewards.

What rpm is your idle? I would guess dirty carb slow jets and/or dirty gas or condensed water in your gas.

You can adjust your idle but that's a band aid not a fix unless its super low now.

With such low miles, your carbs probably are gummed/varnished up from all that sitting. Try running some carb/fuel injector cleaner through a couple tanks and as stated, make sure your idle is about 1200. Unless you have the money and/or knowledge to tear into them for a more thorough cleaning.

And welcome to the forum. Post up some pics if ya get a chance We all love Hawk porn. ;)
