why are there no reliable ccts out there? i want to change my ccts but the ajusting scares me.

Well from what I understand, they never need adjusting. Once set, you check the tension at the same time that you check your valve clearances (you have to do that already) and they usually don't need any adjustment. Plus adjusting the CCT tension is a thousand times easier than adjusting the valve clearances.

So.. I don't get the fear.

But the Honda ones are good for several thousand miles if you insist on keeping Auto ones.

Edit: it isn't like this is a high tolerance adjustment. As long as it is withing a few turns of the bolt of where it should be I don't think it makes a huge difference. It needs to be tight enough that any chain slap isn't enough to kick the chain off the cam sprockets and not so tight that it causes undue wear while running.

The only real risk is if you botch the install and remove the old CCTs with the cylinder that you are working on not being at TDC. And even then if you catch that mistake before you try to start the bike you can fix that problem too.

I agree. I think they are reliable, but maybe like a timing belt is reliable - occasionally needs replacing. So you can go to manual or replace when that time comes. and if you replace the stock ones every 15-20k you are so unlikely to ever have a problem.

This comes up periodically, but I don't understand the perceived dilemma. The manual ones are a no brainer. Install them once and never replace your CCTs again. The maintenance is a non-issue (to me) because it is seldom, if ever, needed.
