APE CCT Help

Hi chaps, just need a little advice...

One of my VTR's had manual APE CCT's fitted since i got hold of it.
But the rear seems to be seeping oil from around the lock nut not the gasket/seal.
Am i right in saying there is a 'O' Ring in there somewhere and is it easy enough to replace?
Or do i have to take the lot out at TDC? :)

Cheers

not entirley on topic but ive noticed theres no knowledge base articles on cam chain tensioners and or how to sync carbs. am i missing them or is there just not one?

Yeah, mine does the same thing. I think there is an o-ring under the locknut. It's not the best design but it seems to work for about a year or two and then it starts to leak. If you can get a new o-ring over the bolt head and locknut then it's an easy job. Otherwise you're looking at having to set the rear cylinder at TDC and backing the adjuster all the way out to replace the o-ring.

Cheers for the reply Hawkrider.
Good idea if its just under the locknut... on the APE tensioners, im sure there is hole drilled through nut and thread and held in place with a spring pin.
Will have a look otherwise i could knock the pin out and take both nuts off. :)
Have you tried getting the o-ring over the top or just gone the full way and taken it out?
Cheers.

I dunno but I think mine are welded. Maybe they changed their manufacturing method. But if yours are that way it sounds like a good idea. I've not replaced my o-ring yet. I just wipe up the drop of oil that appears every hundred miles or so. Me=lazy.

Still forgot to have a look earlier today, my rear cct is leaking too badly now that i finally have to do something about it. :)

So a quick spray of brake cleaner and a quick wash off no longer work as it reappears. :)
