Another oil/filter thread...
 

1st post here, but have been lurking for days and searching the forum. Looking for some first hand info.

Going to change my oil soon with Mobil 1 MX4T 10w-40. Its what I have been using in my 600RR for the past number of years and thought I'd try it in the V Twin also. I think the Mobil 1 V Twin formula (20w-50) would be a little too thick for our colder climate here in Canada. Has anyone personally used the MX4T formula in the 1000 V Twin? Good, bad?

Got a bunch of Purolator PL14612 filters from the CBR as well. I see a number of you have been using them with good results?

are you changing the oil in a VTR or CBR?

if you are referring to Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40/20-50 (there was a name change some time ago)than yes,i do use this oil,and since i bought the bike,this is the only oil i have used.I have had no issues at all with it,it has been very good to me.

when i first bought the bike,it rode good,but i knew the oil had to be changed,the past owner didnt take very well care of it.as soon as i changed it,saw a slight difference,once it all settled in,it was a very good change for the better.
you will not go wrong using that oil at all.its not priced bad.well if you have a wal-mart that sells them.i buy mine from wal-mart for 8.96 a quart.other places want 10 to 13 bucks for the same stuff.

Personally I always used olive oil for the nice smell. Add a little garlic and and some salt and you have a tasty meal.

Wait, you mean oil for the bike?? Oh, then I use Mobil 1 synthetic non "energy conserving" car oil. Yes car oil. As long as it doesn't have "friction modifiers" in it, then oil is oil. (most car oils have friction modifiers in them though, so you have to shop carefully) Read the "donut" on the oil to figure out what you need: API Engine Oil Classifications

But truth be told, run what you want, of whatever brand you want, just change it as scheduled, and don't use any oil that will gum up your clutch (most car oils will). After that it's almost all in your head.

Well I use it because my bike shifts better with it than any of the other types I have tried. ;)

Yes I use the 10w-40 as the 20w-50 is for air cooled twins....

walmart has rotella dyno for $10/gallon. i just picked up a few.

Which brand is makes it shift the best, in your opinion?

i looked into how much it would cost me and its the same as the motorcycle oil i buy :( i maybe save a couple of bucks at wally world,thats if it is cheaper in wally world.

In mine it is the Mobil 4T 10w-40 ;)

I pay $16.99/gallon at the dealer for Pro Honda 10w40, and I change it every 3,000 miles, which comes out to about 4 changes a year.

You can usually get the Rotella "T" synthetic for $18/gal. too. I use the conventional oil and my 'hawk never shifted/ran better. Get wal-mart's Supertech ST-7317 or 6607 filter (read up, they're very high quality) for $2.50 along with it.

Edit: while car oil does work, it is not the same. Our engines share their oil supply with a transmission and a wet clutch. Diesel engine oils are much better. Most moto oils are very close in formulation from what I have read.

I run 10W40 Mobil 1 Racing 4T in my Blackbird, no problems there.
I'm trying 10W40 Mobil 5000 in the SH with a Purelator One 2.5" filter, seems to be happy so far. $23 total from AdvanceAutoparts.
