air box help

the previous owner of my bike modified the air box a bit so i was wondering if you guys could help me bring it back to stock specs. underneath the two small foam filters that are inside the airbox, he plugged up all the holes, except for the the carb breather tubes.. he left those alone. are the holes supposed to be just left open or is there supposed to be some tubing connecting them to something? also there is another tube on the bottom thats right next to a little post. he has that tube connected to that post to block it off. any imput would be appreciated!
thanks guys!

Re: air box help

When you get a K&N you get plastic plugs to block those off so I wouldn't worry too much about it. The previous owner may have removed the PAIR system so that could be part of it too.

The airbox should have the float vents attached. this keeps float bowl pressure equalized with the airbox. The crankcase vent hoses from each valve cover also need to be attached. The PAIR hoses on the bottom right can be blocked off if the pair system has been removed. See Greg Nemish's VTR site for info on disabling the PAIR reed valve.

Re: air box help

so, i take it the float vents are the short hoses, that have the foam filter inside the airbox. i also take it that all those holes under the foam filters are supposed to be open. is having the pair system disabled going to cause me problems when i go in for emissions testing?
