8 inch blue flames out the exhaust

What would cause this? It just happened today. Its never done this before.

CruxGNZ 08-25-2013 08:10 PM

Blue? What were you and the bike doing when it happened?

7moore7 08-25-2013 08:19 PM

Damn, I thought this was going to be a "how to" thread.

Can you get a video?

my pipes do that when I get a good pop out of them...I didn't bother to question it as it looks absolutely bad ass. :)

98VTRrider 08-26-2013 06:32 AM

my bike used to do that at times... I think usually when you are hard on the gas, then chop the throttle closed and engine brake, some unburned fuel gets ignited in the exhaust

FTL900 08-26-2013 10:37 AM

Me too on the "HOW TO" thread.. when you figure out what caused it, be sure to post details here!!!

Have you got any air leaks in the exhaust system. This will cause some flames. I had some flames when my front header pipe fell off just before a dyno run.

So, this is a "how to" thread.

Any input on where to drill holes in my head pipes to maximize flamage and any ideas how to make the flames more yellow so they look faster, er, fastest? Any serious input welcome.

This is what you guys need. Whenever you get anyone tailgating you know what to do. :)

HAHA, Well I know its doable. If you really want the flames easiest is to free rev the bike in neutral up to about 5k chop the throttle a bit and flick the kill switch off then on quick she will shoot some nice flames! :flamethrower:

ChikinLady1011 08-26-2013 12:09 PM

^^ agree. I rev to 6-7k, close throttle, you should get a nice "pop pa-pop" and some fire.

Fistfullofthrotl718 08-26-2013 01:16 PM

Ok. Figured it out. Im am a class "A" knucklehead or an absolute hero. Depends on how you take the info. So, I took my carbs of to do the carb setup just to find out the bike has a jet kit I think. Although Im not sure. Do stock needles have clip positions?

Anyway, I have my pair system in place but upon reassembly 2 of the hoses were not connected. So on decel, between 6-3k rpms heavy popping and blue flames like a machine gun was going off. Hooked the hoses back up. Instant fix.

No they do not; you have a jet kit. ;)

Fistfullofthrotl718 08-26-2013 05:17 PM

Although it looks pretty cool, it's sounds horrible IMO. Thanks for the info about the jet kit. Any way to find out which one it is? Maybe some markings on the needle or something?
