1998 Super hawk 996 red line/Electrical issue?

Hello all,

I'm new to riding, new to bike, and new to forums so please forgive me if this had already been covered.

Back story: a friend who passed away owned the bike. I purchased it to have it rebuilt (it was in pieces). I took it to a Honda shop. they did great. they got everything put back together and running.

However, the bike seems to be missing @ 7000RPMs. the Mechanical believes its an electrical issue. he could run that down for me but its a lot more $. has anyone experienced this or advice? Thank you.

TPS set as near 5k ohms as possible?

500 Ohms, not 5k.

Some say 430-440 is the sweet spot.

Indeed.

I had to remove the grommet and do a bit of grinding..quit @ 513...or thereabouts. Runs great now.

Under 500 on the tps got weird on my VTR.

I'd want to know the condition of the carb diaphragms and make sure the internals of those carbs are meticulously clean. I'm not buying in to the electrical story quite yet. Do you really trust this shop?

Would you elaborate on "weird".

Sure, when I went lower than 5 and rode the bike, it acted like it was developing the carb farts. That's the best explanation I can come up with. I settled above 5 and that felling ceased to exist.

The reason i asked is I'm at 430ohms and I have not experienced what you described. I'm at 5000' elevation and have read that more advance (in this case not more, but sooner) works better for the lower cylinder pressure the higher elevation causes.
