190 tire question

Hello
I am in need of a tire for use in the short term. Will any modifications be needed to get a 190 size tire on my 2000 vtr?

Itll fit but its not ideal. being on a 5.5" rim causes the tire to be pinched resulting in a smaller contact patch at lean.

ok, it will be a temporary measure. I want to be sure that I dont have to modify anything.

even as temp tire.really try to stay with correct size.

If you have a hugger mounted, it will probably rub on that, and potentially on the swingarm as well if the wheel is forward on the chain adjusters... This since "pinching it" like jay said will make it taller... Also, the speedo will be measurably off...

Throw it on. I ran a 190 for a couple years. Makes the back end higher like a spacer would & makes overall gearing taller but is fine otherwise.

+1 - I've done it too. Running a 190 tire is not a big deal, there are plenty of other things to focus your attention on!

Well I changed my tire today and found yet another problem which was corrected

well, for what it's worth, the Q2 180x55 has the same approximate dimensions as a 190x50 BT0-16 when mounted on a 5.5 in rim. And some manufacturers have indicated that it's acceptable to mount 190s on 5.5 rims.

I didn't like the feel of the larger tire/profile after I got used to it, but couldn't tell any serious adverse affects.

you can get 190 tires that are meant for a 5.5 inch rim. if its free use it and dont worry about it, itll change some things but wont make the bike un stable or anything like that. im going from a 170 to a 190 on my track bike, that should be fun :D

I just got conti motion Z tires and they are nicer than my pilot activs and stickier than the diablos that were on this bike before.
