04-13-11 A thought about improving my RR
I was thinking I might be able to put this on my matchbox R/R
CompUSA.com | IXN40C | Silenx IXN40C 40mm iXtrema Pro Chipset Cooler It is very inexpensive and I can pick one up locally. It has a small fan and some thermal compound. since I installed the LED taillight I have an extra tail light power lead. With that I could ensure that the fan is only on while the bike is on. Tomorrow I will check out the package for the voltage/amperage requirements. Opinions? Hints? Concerns? |
buy my RR lol. it basically sounds like theyre treating a RR like a CPU with the thermal compound and fan. try that, just go buy some at the bestbuy or something and slap it on. i doubt that a fan will improve cooling much more then air wizzing by when in motion.
actually looked at link and sorry for being redundant. but still buy mine. |
lol normally I dont think there would be much airflow, but since my last RR caught fire and melted a hole through my cowl I do get flow now.
|
well if theres no airflow to begin with, where will the fan get fresh air from? if thats the case then you will just be circulating "hot" air over the RR. ive personally never had a RR problem, i did actually have a stator go out on me. if your concerned about your RR it might just be better to buy mine or a MOSFET one.
|
which kind are you selling?
|
dunno, it came with the bike but is "finned". i think thats a later year right? check out my part out thread bubbies.

Geek- if you get an R1/R6 regulator you shouldn't have to worry about fire. It's very common for the stock one to go bad, and very uncommon for the Mofset to overheat/overcharge. It's probably concerning you because your bike tried to burn your butt... but if you switch you should be fine.
Also, check out Kai Ju's bike- he cut his tail for airflow to a radiator, but will definitely give that r/r some fresh air if you want to go that route. |

Stock R/R was made by an idiot, produced by morons and then it sat there working it's butt of and ageing... No fan in the world will keep it from being crap...
Use an oversized old r1 or r6 R/R and it should be fine for a few years... Use a new MOSFET type R/R and it will outlive the bike... Sans fans... |

Wasting time on a band aid fix for an old school non MOSFET type R/R is just not worth it. Installing new modern plugs on your wiring harness or better, building in a new better wiring and adding a modern MOSFET type R/R .. EVEN if you have to buy the crimper's for a one time use ,, would be a better deal in the ling run. |
Hey geek. Sorry I dropped off the face of the earth after you got yours. I have been doing alot of very hardcore scuba diving.
Gonna go and check in at the other site as well tonight. Glad to see you got a Hawk. Hope all is well. Cheers, Walt |

Excellent.
Mines changed a little since then. Got a composite fuel cell now. More fuel capacity. The front end mods are done and sorted out. Added a Scotts steering damper. Had the rc51 sp2 on and running, but alignment was whack, so going to probably end up going with a full custom rear swingarm. Think I'm just ready to ride for awhile and enjoy it befor getting down to the powedercoating and paintwork. Cheers, Walt |
this is for sale walking distance from my house
