perfecting your eBay searches
 

OK, so I want to search eBay for VTR parts, but I don't want to see 1300
listings, so I want to eliminate stuff like VTR250 & CB77. I also want to
make sure I do get listings that are SuperHawk, Super Hawk, VTR, VTR1000,
etc. Here are the search string variations I'm trying, but they aren't
working. Does anyone know how to get this right?

(vtr,vtr1000,superhawk,"super hawk"-CL72-CL77-CB72-CB77-CT70-VTR250-"VTR
250")

(vtr,vtr1000,superhawk,"super

You don't need the quotation marks, and you can use wild cards.
and put a space between the parenthesised objects (not sure if it's
needed, but it can't hurt)

Here's an example of something I do alot
(Superhawk,Super Hawk,VTR*) -(VTR250,250,cb*,cl*,197*,196*,305,signal)
etc.
This returned 195 objects as of this morning.
Don't forget to choose ebay motors and the subset parts and accessories.

You can also add other things to thin down the list, like signal* to
get rid of the turn signal adds of which there seem to be a constant
flood. And other things of which you have no interest. Kinda the
reverse of searching for what's interesting....

Usually returns 200 - 300 items (incl. vtr250), but it's a manageable amount i think. Super Hawk owners seem to be pretty knowledgeable about using VTR in their titles.

And I search titles and descriptions, this yields a large list, ~350, but in
my experience is 99% SuperHawk.

Yea, right. Of course that will find VTR items, but I don't care to wade
through 300 items (or more) trying to sift through which ones I want, I want
the technology to do it for me. We apparently have different views of what
'manageable' is. Which is fine, except I asked how to get a search working
that includes several keywords, including some that contain spaces, while
also eliminating several other keywords, some also with spaces, & vtr* is
not really an answer. But hey, whose complaining? We are seeing some real
posts for a change!

See how odd an irrelevant response can seem? It is a factual statement, just
not very meaningful. I wouldn't be surprised if someone were to respond that
my post was not really related to the subject at hand, perhaps even in a bit
