Spammers
Hey guys, sorry about all the recent spammer activity here. I'm not really sure what happened but I've spent a LOT of time deleting new "members" from the forum and blocking IP addresses. I probably deleted over 400 fake users. I am now moderating ALL new users to the forum and will be starting a new thread for this purpose.
Thanks for dealing with it for a few days. |
Thanks for taking the time to take care of all of that Greg!
thank you very much
yes, thank you. it is always nice having an idiot free forum
No problem dude. Thanks for the hard work.
glad you're working hard to keep us safe :)
You must be doing pretty good as I only noticed one spam post.
Does signing up requre email verification? |
Thanks Greg, dont delete me, im real...
Greg, U da MAN!
RC |
yes thank you I noticed a few threads get through but had no idea you had 400 some odd deletables so thank you.
Now I can tell my wife that "I am for real" since I can still post.
I suggest a couple of things to fellow forum members pending a moderator deleting a spam thread:
1) Do not post a response to the spam thread. 2) Bump a few prior threads to get the spam thread off the front page. |
Thanks for taking the time Greg...much appreciated.
If one comes up, report the post (there's a link on the page somewhere). It usually doesn't take me very long to take care of it, or one of the other moderators can do it too. They get the same email I do when the post is reported.
Thanks for your gate keeper diligence!
Thanks Greg. But I have to admit that I posted a sarcastic reply with the SPAM smilie to one of them. I did not, however, bite on any of the links they listed. Thankfully I'm not that dumb.
Does a post reply compromise a member? |

Does a post reply compromise a member? No but it makes others more likely to click on the thread and click on something in it they shouldn't. It also puts it to the top, makes it more obvious to everyone that their beloved forum is being overrun by spam where they otherwise might never notice. |
