Not oil / OIL FILTER

(Set the stage 0900 )
Bringing the 2005 SH out of hibernation. Went to the parts closet in the garage... HARK!!! no OEM honda oil filters... Phone call to the wife to stop at the local shop (and called the shop to have the filters bagged and ready to go......
1230 (same day) I am still waiting.... (I M R)
Now the family ( wife, son and I ) own, drive Honda Vehicles... 2012 Pilot, 2016 CRV , 2005 Element, 2005 CRV, 3 RC-51s, 2 SH, etc(12 more bikes)...

So the IMPATIENT person i seem to be .......... And the large supply of Honda OEM automobile oil filters the closet contained..... I carefully screwed a Honda car filter on the SuperHawk....
Wow, never considered it.... Then added the oil (usually 4quarts- even) cranked the bike up... Sat and idle -until the fan "BUZZED" . Shut it down... Standing straight up, level shop floor- added a 1/2 ( half a quart) more..
Any opinion... Took the bike across the mountain and back ( 20 miles or so..) Seem to be NO real difference in the engine.........
(1600 same day) Wife was awaiting for me , in front of the garage, shaking that bag of oil filters. When i got back....
Local Honda Car Dealership (oil filter cost $ 5.18 w/t) Local Honda Bike Dealership ( oil filter cost $9.89 w/t)

I feel for ya! I found an O-ring that I needed for my SH on partzilla for $3.29 got the same part no. from Honda automobile for $1.34. Now I always just search the Honda part no. first. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

I've been using automobile filters for my VTR for 21 plus years as soon as it was out of warranty.
I liked the Purolator pure one filters, both the short and the long, until there were some problems with them and I have tried their Boss version which has got a heavier case but you still got to be careful. Lately I've been using the Mobil 1 motorcycle filter made by Champion Labs which is also available at any auto parts store. Since this is not an oil thread I will not say that as soon as my engine was worn-in at 600 miles ( I don't break in engines) that I switched to mobile one automobile oil until they changed the formulation by adding friction modifiers. Since then I've been using Shell Rotella T6. Again, this is not an oil thread.

I wouldn't take Bob the oil guy too seriously but I'm sure he's been discussed on this forum and its predecessor, Runlevelzero.

Anyway, the filters and oil I've used since I bought my 98 new haven't seemed to be a problem reliability wise. 😎

Oh, and the VTR takes at least 4.2 quarts, sometimes a bit more but over halfway in the widow increases crankcase pressure and oil in the air box.
