Your thoughts on Garmin Zumo 220 motorcycle GPS navigator

Want to buy a new GPS for my cousin and need your advice to pick the best one. Well, while searching information on new GPS navigators, I stumbled across an article at TechPL.us says that Garmin reveals new Zumo 220 GPS Navigator which available in March for $599.99. I read some positive reviews about this GPS. Its really a fully loaded device. Should I buy it on the release date or wait a few weeks.?

I have a 265W that works fine on my bike. The only thing it's missing is being waterproof. If it rains, I just take it off the mount and stick it in my pocket. I only paid 100 bucks for it, so even if it goes bad for any reason, I can buy more than 5 of them for the price of the new 220.

NCDAVE has an excellent point, two friends and I purchased Nuvi 750s from an eBay refurb seller. Heck-of-a lot less expensive than a Zumo but not waterproof. I take mine off in a rain, one friend covers his with a baggie (Oh, we use these on our Wings, not our VTRs) and has had not problems. One other issue, the Nuvi, while touch screen is probably a lot harder to operate with gloves on.

I put my nuvi in my tank bag. It makes the operation damn near impossible with gloves or without. I get so pissed at it. Another problem is that it constantly sees the plastic cover as a "touch" and it has even rerouted me without my knowing. I have wanted the zumo, and would recommend considering it. You can, just the same as the nuvi, use you gps as a mp3. The nice thing about this is that it cuts in with the directions when it needs to.

The key here, if you do a lot of riding, or driving, and use a gps or maps a lot because many of the roads you are on are new, then you will not regret spending some money on supplies. If a gps, a communication headset, waterproof gear, riding boots, or whatever are things you buy, you won't regret it. If you ride 3k mi or less a year, dont spend the money.

I personally feel this is the best to get. I have one, its great.
waterproof and heavy duty. A little dated and a bit big compared to the new models....but you can get them for a steal!:D
