Suomy Helmet

Anyone tried the Suomy Spec-1R helmet's? I got my new one about a month ago and love it. Was using an Icon Mainframe but it didn't hold up very well. May have been me or the helmet, who knows. Just curious.

I went by the local shop and took a look at them. They seem to be pretty good. I went with Shoei though. Just felt better to me. Every one is different and a Suomy may be the one you like. Point is to wear something.

i used a spec 1r once and then I wrecked... it held up well and even though I was knocked out I must say I was glad to have it on. Can't really say what would've happened with another helmet on

Hate to here about the crash No09, but glad the lid did its job. Good pic's, doesn't help that it gnarled your lid up though. Definitely not cheap to replace.

btw the helmet is noisy. earplugs are a must

Hawk9807 07-21-2007 03:14 PM

Very true statement No09. I thought the Icon I was using before the Suomy was noisy as well. I have no problem spending a couple dollars for ear plugs.

I have one and I am very happy with it except for the orange faded to yellow in less than a year. Rediculous.

I used to own 1 before (Biagi Extreme) fit me nice and feel light but down side of replace face shield took 3-5 minutes unlike Shoei or Arai 20 sec.

Tried on a few at the AMA's here in Utah. Nice and light, fit nice, I'm thinking about it as my next lid. After I try a few others on of course. I like the british certified helmets.

I agree about the earplugs. I love the way the helmet fits, but plugs are a must.

The Suomy i had held up nicely against the curb last weekend. A bit noisy but the best fitting helmet so far.

I have posted my helmet preferences on other polls that have been here on the forum. I agree the newer helmets have more windnoise because they have better ventilation. The last helmet I bought was noisy as hell. Gave it to the kid and he loves it. I like to hear the bike, I like to hear the tires, I like being able to avoid the EMS vehicle that doesn't recog that I'm wearing plugs or phones.

I've got no experience with that helmet, but think earplugs are a good idea with any helmet if you are riding at high speed for any length of time. I've got a pair of now discontinued Nolan X-Lite 901s which most reviewers considered to be the quietest helmet they ever tested. i still wear earplugs whenever I'm riding over 55 or 60 for any length of time.

I got a shoei last summerand couldn't wait to try it out becase it was supposed to be the queitest helmet out there. I was dissapointed. It is quiter then the HJC it replaced, but I still have to wear ear plugs at highway speeds.

Suomy helmet update

I have really grown to love the Suomy Spec 1R. It is somewhat on the noisy side, but ear plugs take care of that. I have used the helmet from July 07 to current and it has done great. Only down side is the visor replacement, talk about a pita. Fit was great for me, finish is holding up well an am only on the third visor (two clears and one iridium).
