Ogio No Drag Backpack review
 

Since I just transitioned from a Kawasaki Concours with hard saddlebags to the Superhawk I was looking for a good way to haul everything I need with me. I decided on the Ogio No Drag backpack. Today was the first day I had a chance to use it for a commute to work. It was damn cold this morning about 28 degrees when I left, but even with some extra clothes on the backpack fit very well. The bag works very well and was able to easily haul my 15" laptop, extra gloves, lunch, and shoes. It did bump into my helmet at first but after I adjusted it to ride a little lower on my back that went away. Once under way i almost forgot it was on my back. It is very comfortable to wear and did not distract me at all. This thing is loaded with features. I has an ipod pocket, is capable of handling a hydration pack and has lots of pockets inside. It also has a built in helmet pouch. I think this is a very good solution for commuting or taking a short trip. It would easily hold some extra clothes and other things you would need for a short trip. I am much more comfortable using this backpack than using bungie cords to hold my laptop bag on the back seat.

Your first mistake was giving up the connie for the hawk. you should have BOTH! :D

You might want to consider soft bags or a tank bag. It's not as convenient as the packpack, perhaps, but I sling my computer bag diagonally over one shoulder and under the other arm.

Just some alternative ideas. :)

How do you find it for stability at speed?

I use a pacsafe rucksack ( http://tinyurl.com/packsafe ) for work that I got for £20 in Tk maxx its slashproof, snatchproof and all that stuff and has no loose flappy straps so i thought it would make a great bike tour rucksack as I like to be able to stop place's and walk about taking my valuables with me. But its massively unstable over about 90mph and sets up a wobble like having a passenger shaking me about from left to right. Possibly its the tumbling air off the flat bottom of the bag, like a car spoiler.

So far i have only had it up to 60 mph, but at that speed i didn't feel any influence from the pack. This pack is a semi hard backpack that is contoured to prevent disturbance due to catching the wind.

It's the shape that does it i think, the curve round the bottom to smooth out the airflow, mine is quite square and i think that's the problem. It really only happens over 80 - 90mph but its the last thing you want when overtaking!

(only where limits allow such behavior, of course !!!)

I've had TONS of luck with a CamelPak, mine is a 3litre with an expandable backpack area. There's also a waistband to keep it on for higher speeds. Although, I only have an 11.6" laptop, not a 15"er.

However, it works perfect for flying through the mountains and filling up a growler of TommyKnocker brew to have later :)

Just an update, the stability of this backpack is very good. Had a chance to use it at some higher speeds today and it was very stable and did not cause any disturbance. Also it does not move around on your back so even when riding through some twisties it was still not a problem.

I just bought a 14Ltr tank bag that converts to a backpack for when you are off the bike. So far so good for me.
