Looking for some leathers..
I am looking to get a leather suit. I think I have decided on a 2 piece. Only problem is I have no idea how the pants are suppose to fit. How the sizes match up to regular pants or what the best fit is for comfort. Should they be tighter to eliminate parachute effect or loose to were something under them.
Any info on sizing and brand would be great. thanx Jeremy |
This qustion has a lot of variables. 1) what brand it is. 2)what model of brand it is. 3) what type of riding are you using it for. 4) your own personal taste.
Most companies have sizing charts to give you an idea but the best thing to do is try on what you like so you know what fits right. If you're using it for serious track type riding get it tight, if it's for street riding get what's comfortable. I usually only wear an Under Armour type thing because even with full perf. it gets hot. Most pants are fairly close to pant sizes but it varies as do the jackets. I have 3 suits right now and each one is a different size. The last variable in this equation is, what are you looking to spend? There are a lot of different brands and each has different levels of suits. You have touring suits, full race suits and everything in between. Each company has entry level on up, look for something that has double stiching at least triples even better. Some suits double the leather in impact areas and...blah.. blah.. blah... Some good places to look are www.newenough.com www.motorcyclecloseouts.com and of course Ebay. There's a lot of places other than that but it's a start, if you let me know what you're looking to spend I might be able to direct you to something. |
Re: Looking for some leathers..
Ive been poking around the internet and have seen some stuff I like. It will be mainly for the street with a track day here and there. Im hitting the track for the first time this coming spring but I dont think its gonna be an everyweek thing. I didnt want to spend more than $600. I have to get out and start trying stuff on. Then I can start searching for the best price.
|
If you do one track day, you're more than likely going to do more! I'm hopelessly addicted, went for the first time in march and have done 6 since. Where do you live? If you've got a cyclegear near they've got Frank Thomas leathers for around $400. If you find something you like online take your measurements and send them to them and they should be able to get a good idea of what size will fit.

Re: Looking for some leathers..
Thanx for the info. Thats what everyone tells me about track days. Im sure I will be hooked. Im in New Jersey I will see if there is a cyclegear around here.

Re: Looking for some leathers..
check out www.newenough.com
new leathers at a discount, discontinued, last years model. I got a one piece Teknic vented set for $325.00 a year ago. |
Call Andy at Matthews Fun Machines in Matthews NC (Charlotte) at 704-847-8454.
They have some new MotoGP one piece suits on sale. Shipping included. |
I'm a smaller guy, (around 5'10" and 150lbs) and I was looking to see if anyone has a set of leathers I can buy or maybe borrow for the upcoming track day. I don't want to pay the rental fee, because I plan on doing several track days. Any suggestions besides websites?

Re: Looking for some leathers..
I'll check with my friend and see what sizes he has available.
With the impending closure of our race track here There may be some great deals on leathers coming up. We are still hopeful someone will save the track, but it don't look good. http://hrra.net/ Ed |
That sucks ED!! Give me a couple of days to think about it I might sell you a 2pc set that's tight on me but should fit you well. (I only have 3 sets of leathers so I don't know if I can part with these.) They're fieldsheer full waist zipper and removable armour, black and blue with some perf. to keep you cooler. There in good to great condition and have never felt pavement.
|
Sounds cool, but I thought I saw something in the track reg's about not being able to use fieldsheer by Joe Rocket... Have you used em at the track?
|
Yes a couple of times. They're not made by Joe Rocket, (which I don't recommend, thier old stuff falls apart at the seams), That's the company's name Fieldsheer they are double stiched in most areas triple in others.
|
I looked at your req. list for the trackday and the Fieldsheer stuff they listed are all mesh type gear so the leathers will be more than the req. suit.
|
Sounds good then. You have my Email, now I just have to paint my bike blue or black to match the leathers...

Re: Looking for some leathers..
Loco,
I checked with Mike and he only has some good used leathers in small and large. Superhawk22 The closure is a shame. I spent many fun hours there on rs125, rs250 and endurance 600 racers. I even had my first low side there in the off camber (too much KFC for lunch). |
I just started doing trackdays last year in March but I go whenever I have a chance,(8 times since) tires get pricey though. It seems a lot of tracks get squeezed out with urban sprawl, is that what's closing this track?
|
Re: Looking for some leathers..
Unfortunately no.
That would be more understandable and acceptable. The long and short of it is Matson Shipping lines will be taking up the lease to store containers on the site. Some one blew off the EPA mandated sanitation upgrades. You can find out more on the link to the Road Race club I provided earlier in the thread. Keep up the track days. The tires are $$$ The race gas is absurd ($6.75+ gal before mixing) The experience is priceless. Memories of a lifetime. Just make sure your back at work on Monday. |
Now that REALLY sucks my condolences.

So IYO, Fieldsheer makes good leathers?? I was looking at a Fieldsheer Super Sport III Leather jacket Black online for $139.00 plus shipping, brand new....Is that a good price for one....They say it listed at $299 but I used to work in retail, so that could be made up.... |
Superhawk22,

Mark waited on me & seems know his stuff too. I found the Fieldshear suits to be very stiff. They say they will break in but dayum it seems it would take a while. The suits were around $500 They also have jackets from many different manufactures. Last years stuff is on sale now. Probably not as good of a price as mail order but you can try it on before you buy OR get an idea of what size, maker, & model fits you. |
