Looking for good touring boot.
 

We are planning a spring trip 7-10 ride and starting to gear up.
I am looking for a pair of boots that have good protection yet could be used on a hike if needed. (not alot of room on the hawk for alot of extra gear) I have a good pair of sidi boots but not great for walking in.

any suggestions?

I have a pair of tactical boots I picked up for cheap.....although not 'riding' boots. they offer protection well above my ankles, are light, and have aggressive tread for hiking and what not..... this has been argued before, but I feel that a tactical boot like I am describing will offer 80% + the protection that an insanely overpriced 'riding' boot offers.... just my opinion.

Look in the Sportsman's Guide. They sell the black, gore-tex lined boots that the Army was issuing for about 1-2 years before they went to the brown boots now issued. They are made by either Bellevue or Welco, and are they best black boots issued. Around $50-$60, if I recall. Been riding in them for around 5-6 years so far, when I'm not deployed. They work fine on either my FJR or VTR, and they are more comfy walking around than my Oxtar(Now TCX) Matrix riding boots.

Magnum boots are good.I have used them for riding and hiking.Not the best for either but they are a good boot. Priced about $85-$130 depending on the style.

Generic imported rain overboots that fold small and pack anywhere. Essential kit for long trips where rain is expected and luggage space is at a minimum. They come with a nylon stuff sack for easy storage and will keep your feet dry in all day rain rides. Except for that they are useless, and we hate them. Black. S, M, L, XL.

I am in the same position as you and am about to try these: the Caterpillar Alaska Active Boot in black. I have had the Caterpillar Alaska Boot before and loved it, but it is not a hiking boot (as none of the above are either). I don't know if I will use them to hike, as I always find myself in my all terrains or sandals when trekking. I just want a black riding boot with some versatility.

try looking at the Icon Accelerant boot....they are a shorter boot, but offer good ankle support, are made of pvc and aramid (kevlar), have polycarbonate ankle, toe, and heel protectors, and are waterproof....they are very light and wear like a good tennis shoe, keep in mind if ordering though, that they do fit 1/2 to a full size small.
