Helmet speakers cable exit point
 

After owning helmet speakers for over a year now, I just permanently installed them. I used ear buds for a long time because the speakers pushed in on my ears causing fatigue. The buds have been causing more discomfort lately so the speakers are in for now. What I'm not crazy about is the wire and plug that I am left with. It's going drive me crazy having that dangling all the time. Has anyone come up with a better solution to my issue (besides not using in helmet audio :mad: )? The rear edges of my RF1000 doesn't exactly have alot of room to tuck wire into.

well..... sort of.

In my old icon I cut the frame off of a linked bluetooth headset and I glued the speakers inside the "ear cups". I extended the wiring to the bottom of the helmet and put a small on/off button (that was a pain because the old one was a 3-function switch) and I moved the volume buttons to the same spot. The charge port was difficult because I had to put the connector inside the ear cup.

It worked well but if you're using wires, why not sew a small cloth cover and run the wire down the chin strap? 3.5mm jacks can be had for pennies on ebay and you could splice a female on to the end of the helmet side and then just make a male/male connector from your output device to there?

I used to dangle the headphones from my ear, down the front of my shirt and to my pocket where my phone was.

For me my phone stays on the inside pocket of my riding jacket and i did just what bass4dude said with the adapter "sewn" under a cloth into the i used these and glued them into the ear cups. Its wayyyyy better than the http://www.wirelessground.com/altec-lansing-muzx-ultra-headphones-with-iphone-control-mzx606cg.html i was wearing, im at work right now but i'll see if i can get up a few pictures, later on.

One cable is longer, that speaker goes in the left side, cables are run under the edge of the foam/padding around to the right side where they exit.

I use a chatterbox hjc50. That way you just plug into that.

When I used only helmet speakers I mounted a radioshack 1/8" jack into the foam so that just a plug hole showed. Then you just run a 1/8" male to male extension from the device and it plugs in while you wear the helmet without even looking.

So no wire off the helmet at all.

I also mount my helmet speakers in the earcups under the liner. You have to slightly dismantle the liner and reglue it but then you can put foam behind it to stay close to your ears.

Wear a schampa spandex skull cap to hold your ears to your head (and absorb sweat to save that expensive helmet). Eliminates ear fatigue for 10hrs at a time, I have tested it.
