Heated Gear?
 

Anyone on the forum here using heated gear? Just curious after this last trip, which was not cozy.

Check out Tour Master (TM) "Synergy" vests & jackets http://tourmaster.com/xcart/catalog/...p-1-c-59.html; by far the best bang for the buck (forget their gloves though and don't know about their chaps); btw, they come with their own digital thermostat included in the price. I like my vest with collar a lot, much better than my old (now defunct) Widder gear. Gerbing http://gerbing.com/ has a new line of "micro wire" gear but they're very pricy in comparison to TM; Aerostitch has a neat inflatable electric vest but again, its pricey http://www.aerostich.com/aerostich-k...tric-vest.html. Yes I do Teach.Electrics are worth the price of admission.Have a Widder(defunct) vest and it works great for keeping your core toasty.Also have a Gerbings jacket liner.It works even better.30 degrees no problem.Has provisions for hooking up gloves and chaps.Can't speak for either as I found that if my core is warm the rest stays happy.Both have nice heated collars that fit right up to your helmet.Works best with just a T-shirt underneath(Puts the heat next to you and keeps the bulk down).Do invest in the thermostat.Both will cook you out when run wide open if the temp. is not real cold.They make the differance between going for a comfortable ride or not going at all.Even have a hook up on tractor for doing up the leaves and blowing that white sh!t out of the driveway.I'm 58 and my furnace needs a little help every now and then.Go for it--you won't regret it.

I've got a Widder vest with a tall neck that Ive had for years.And have thought about getting grips,so I can wear the gloves of my choice....Your riding with the heater on,It's pretty sweet.A tall neck and a snug fit would be important to me

Do you run heated grips? I don't have any heated gear any more, but my heated grips keep the blood in my hands warm enough that I don't feel my finger tips freezing any more. That alone makes a huge difference. I'll ride down to about 20 degrees but that's really too low for my current gear.

Vest and gloves are a great combo.. Heated grips work as well at slower speeds, like my off road bikes, but i much prefer gloves for the street. For street wear, I've only tried Gerbing... Vest and gloves, with a neck gater to seal jacket / neck area. silk weight thermal underware keeps me comfy at speed in 30~40 deg weather all day.

I've had a collarless Widder vest for a number of years. It makes riding a lot more enjoyable when the temperature is in the 5 degree to 10 degree Celsius range. A t-shirt, Widder, fleece and Olympia AST jacket without a liner combination works well for me. It won't work with a one piece rainsuit or bib style rain pants unless you lengthen the cord considerably or make a hole and put a grommet in the pants or rainsuit and run the cord through it. It's a bit of a PITA with two piece leathers. I've got to unzip the Widder 5 to 10 cm. from the bottom and fold up the left side so the connector is above the waistband of my leathers to make it comfortable. Aside from that, it's indispensible.

I really was looking for someone that rode colder weather to chime in :) The tour master gear looks good. Does anyone here run more than just a vest or gloves. I was curious about running the full heated set. I don't even know what our stator can support.

I have the gerbing jacket liner and gloves. It works great when you get caught in the cold weather at night. I had the overpants for a short period of time, but it felt like snowpants so i got rid of them. Like others have said, get the adjustable thermostat, it works great.
