Fleece

I must be the last person to actually buy a fleece jacket. I'm talking about those light ones that columbia, northface, rei etc etc all make. you see everyone wearing them now for any occasion. I finally bought one at my kids insistance when complaining about cold riding.

I have to say the difference is pretty dramatic. If there are any others out there who don't think these offer any improvment, do yourself a favor and try one. I was wearing cotton sweatshirts mostly as layers with underarmor and that was virtually worthless by comparison. This under my jacket gets me another 15 degrees easily. Even around the house I can turn the temp down a couple degrees. and a lot less bulk

Again, I realize this is very old news, and I'm probably the last person to finally buy one, but I have to say, worth the hype

Wow, you are behind. I grew up wearing fleece all the time in Colorado. Never thought of it for riding though...

Have a Arc'teryx fleece, a bit pricy but does the trick.

Some great deals on this type of winter gear....

completely, 100% way behind. I felt like my grandfather! my wife and kids laughing at me after I finally tried one. I just was still stuck in old cold weather gear - I just finally tried one of the newer primaloft materials last winter and traded in about 4 inch thick down in my old parka! technology is great if you give it a chance I guess.

Hahaha! I remember the 4" down. I still got a pair of moon boots around here someplace. I think the last time I wore them was in 2004 when it iced up here badly.

Some of the new garments are incredible. I bought a wind suit to wear under my winter leathers. It feels like any other union suit but it's incredible what it does in cold weather. Last winter I went on a ride (40F) where I was totally comfortable but the bike never warmed up. It was like driving a brick all day.

Rode today with my Northface black fleece on. Yes both my kids and my wife have one. The funny thing is I have a Northface Jacket with fleece zip in liner from 18 years ago when Northface was a small Co. in the north west and they answered the phone. They actually repaired the jacket once by unstitching and replacing a section of torn jacket and returned it all for free. The jacket sits in my basement way too small for my 50 yo body but looking like new and my kids won't go near it. I tell them it's the real thing not this cheap import that is now Northface. the damn thing was $350 then. They can care less. They bought me a new black one that fits and I wear the hell out of it. Yeah they're great.
